PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Fred Dagg (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Drake Macon (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Macon has chosen Rock You Like a Hurricane as his entrance music. The crowd giving both fighters a great reception on their way into the arena. That's good to see.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Fred Dagg!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Drake Macon!
The judges for this bout are William Peck, Trevor Gratis and Dillan Fox.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Macon shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
Dagg is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

Macon decides to stand up and try his luck on the feet.

Macon takes the fight into the clinch.

Macon turns his hips and lands a very nice judo throw into side control!

Macon decides to take the fight back to the feet.
Macon shoots in for a takedown but Dagg shows good takedown defense.

Macon is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Dagg's half guard.
Dagg is looking to get full guard. It looks like he might be successful but at the last minute Macon jumps into side control!

Macon stands up.

Macon clinches up against the cage.

Macon's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Macon tries to close the distance and clinch up but Dagg swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Macon shoots for a double leg takedown but Dagg sprawls well. He's pushed Macon's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Macon looks gassed!
Macon shoots in for a takedown but Dagg shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Fred Dagg has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Drake Macon.

and Macon counters with a single leg into guard. Dagg didn't expect that.
Dagg lands a decent punch to the body there.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Dagg shapes like he's going to throw a leg kick but settles back down.
Dagg tries for a takedown but Macon circles away easily

so Macon counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Dagg is looking to stand up but Macon isn't so interested in that idea.
Macon is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
Macon wants to control from the top but Dagg keeps moving.

Macon throws a big right hand that misses.
Dagg doesn't do any damage with a couple of strikes from the bottom.
Dagg looking for a sweep. Not yet Dagg, not yet.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Dagg tries to clinch up.
Dagg has his takedown stuffed
and Macon counters with a nice uppercut.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Macon clinches.

Macon pulls Dagg into guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Drake Macon dominated that round.
That's time! Dagg's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.


Macon misses with a takedown

and Dagg counters with a shoot takedown. Macon fights it but they end up in guard.
Macon is trying to control the position from the bottom.

Dagg wants to control from the top but Macon keeps moving.
Dagg knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Macon on the ground.
Macon wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

Dagg closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Macon to the mat! Macon manages to get full guard.

Dagg is really struggling to control Macon but he's trying to hold on to the position.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.

and Macon counters into the clinch. Nicely done.
Dagg is pressed up against the cage. Macon has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Dagg down to the mat. Dagg avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.

and Dagg counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
Macon moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.
Macon pulls Dagg in to control the position.
Macon not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Dagg has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Macon is on top in guard.
Dagg on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Dagg tries to get out of the position.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. Let's get this one finished - here comes the final round!


A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Dagg.

Macon throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Dagg was covering up waiting for the punch and Macon finishes the takedown easily into guard.

Macon is pushing down on Dagg's leg trying to pass to half guard. Dagg is fighting to maintain full guard but Macon has managed to sneak the leg through.

Dagg looks like he's trying to stand up.
Dagg is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Macon is thwarting Dagg's attempts to control the position.
Macon is trying to control the action in half guard but Dagg is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Dagg tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Dagg wants to slow Macon down by chopping away at his legs.
Nice takedown defense from Dagg. No joy for Macon on that attempt.

Macon throws a right and a left that Dagg avoids nicely.

Macon manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Macon fails with a takedown attempt.
Dagg lands a head kick!

Dagg shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Macon is trying to defend but Dagg finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.

Drake Macon comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Macon has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
