Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, John Shepherd!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Roman Sanchez!
The judges for this bout are Johanna Lukiainen, Matti Vanhoillinen and Marco Blurström.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Shepherd shoots in looking for a takedown. Sanchez tries to sprawl out of it but Shepherd keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Sanchez manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Shepherd avoids the clinch attempt nicely.

Sanchez is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Shepherd.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Sanchez is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

Shepherd drops back, looking for a kneebar! Sanchez looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Sanchez looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Sanchez!
Shepherd is looking to regain half guard here but Sanchez keeps moving and retains side control.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.

Shepherd shoots in for a double leg but Sanchez sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.

Shepherd feints and as Sanchez raises his hands in defense, Shepherd changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.

Sanchez misses with a series of wild punches.
Sanchez lands with an uppercut that bounces Shepherd off the cage and back into rage.
Roman Sanchez seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Shepherd avoids a punch combination nicely.
Sanchez wants to clinch up but Shepherd keeps it at a distance.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Roman Sanchez will probably get the nod.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Shepherd has thrown up a leg looking for a triangle. Sanchez doesn't defend quickly enough and Shepherd has managed to lock this one up! Can Sanchez escape?! NO! He's tapping out! Damn, that was a quick submission - congrats to Shepherd on a fantastic submission victory.
