PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Vlad Tepez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Janne Maunonen (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Tepez kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is Slayer - Here Comes The Pain. Maunonen has chosen NWA - Gangsta Gangsta as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Both fighters really staring eachother down here, as Janne Maunonen enters the cage!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 8 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Vlad Tepez!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 10 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Janne Maunonen!
The judges for this bout are Matti Vanhoillinen, Tarja Halkonen and Roosa Järviläinen.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Maunonen looks to score with a jab to the body but Tepez is just out of range.
Tepez tries for a takedown but Maunonen sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Tepez fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Tepez displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Maunonen throws out the jab.
Tepez changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Maunonen tries to avoid it but Tepez manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Maunonen to the ground. Maunonen escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Vlad Tepez. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Tepez shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Maunonen napping and manages to drive through into side control!
Maunonen manages to work his way to half guard, despite Tepez's best efforts.
Tepez tries to pass the half guard into mount. Maunonen knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
Tepez is trying to control. Maunonen wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

Tepez shoots in for a double leg but Maunonen sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.

Tepez shoots in looking for a takedown. Maunonen tries to sprawl out of it but Tepez keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Maunonen manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Tepez throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Maunonen's waist but Maunonen gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Tepez off to one side.

Maunonen looks to score with a jab to the body but Tepez is just out of range.

Maunonen lands a powerful looking uppercut that connected with his opponent's jaw.

That was a close round but I would say that Vlad Tepez will probably get the nod.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!

Boom, another hit is landed. "You're gunna get knocked out" taunts Maunonen, as that shot connected.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Janne Maunonen showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Tepez is looking to secure an arm. He's managed it! He's pivoting for an armbar - that looks tight! But Maunonen has managed to get out of it and now he's in a dominant position. Nice work from Maunonen!

Maunonen is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Well Maunonen has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
