PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Andrei Emelianenko (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and ADAM ROBLES (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The crowd seem to be enjoying ROBLES's choice of entrance music: WHO LET THE DOGS OUT. Both fighters will be looking to make this an exciting fight for the fans, I'm sure!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 20 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Andrei Emelianenko!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 10 - 12 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, ADAM ROBLES!
The judges for this bout are Timothy Bukovac, and Frank Antenori.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

ROBLES drives through with a takedown into guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Emelianenko wants to sweep but no luck.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Emelianenko wants to get back to his feet but ROBLES is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
ROBLES trying to control but Emelianenko is working from the bottom.

Emelianenko escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. ROBLES gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Emelianenko is pulling down on ROBLES's head to control his posture.

ROBLES wants to get up but he can't break Emelianenko's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

ROBLES stands up from Emelianenko's guard - ROBLES perhaps looking for a knockout.
ROBLES tries to clinch but Emelianenko moves out of range.
Emelianenko takes a head kick and keeps coming.

ROBLES trying to keep a closed guard but Emelianenko is proving a slippery customer.

ROBLES wants to stand and escape but Emelianenko is having none of it.
ROBLES pulls Emelianenko in close to prevent any damage.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.

Emelianenko changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. ROBLES looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Emelianenko is looking to take a break and control but ROBLES is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
ROBLES is looking to regain half guard here but Emelianenko keeps moving and retains side control.

ROBLES parries the strikes from Emelianenko easily there. Emelianenko is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable ROBLES to escape.

Emelianenko looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.
Emelianenko tries to get to his feet but he's trapped momentarily.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Andrei Emelianenko will probably get the nod.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.

ROBLES changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Emelianenko fights it off and pushes away nicely.

Emelianenko is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. ROBLES doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Emelianenko.
Emelianenko lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.
Emelianenko thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Emelianenko wants to free his trapped foot but ROBLES is holding on for dear life with his legs.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Emelianenko connects with a nice short shot to ROBLES's temple.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
ROBLES wants to clinch.
Emelianenko throws a combination. ROBLES tries to block but a couple of punches get through.

Emelianenko wants to clinch up but ROBLES keeps it at a distance.
ROBLES doesn't succeed with the takedown

and Emelianenko counters with a nice double leg into guard.
Andrei Emelianenko has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of ADAM ROBLES.
Emelianenko wants to control from the top but ROBLES keeps moving.

Emelianenko drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but ROBLES manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Emelianenko has ROBLES in his guard.

ROBLES drops back looking for a leg! Emelianenko is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Emelianenko manages to kick ROBLES off! ROBLES jumps back into Emelianenko's guard.

Emelianenko has his foot on ROBLES's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. ROBLES works his way back into a safe position though.
Emelianenko is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

ROBLES looking to sit in guard and control but Emelianenko gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

That's time! Emelianenko's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. Let's hear some noise people - this is the final round!


Emelianenko scores with a reasonable looking shot to the body. ROBLES doesn't seem bothered though.
Emelianenko shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has ROBLES pinned against the cage. ROBLES gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Emelianenko takes a head kick and shrugs it off.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
A jab lands there for Emelianenko.
ADAM ROBLES seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
ROBLES throws a body punch but Emelianenko moves out of range.

Emelianenko jumps to the side looking to secure the arm triangle…. Ooooh, that looks tight… ROBLES is gargling but he's managed to escape! Nice work there by ROBLES and Emelianenko has given up the dominant position trying to land that submission.

Emelianenko is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. ROBLES knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Andrei Emelianenko.

ADAM ROBLES has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

ROBLES doesn't succeed with the takedown

and Emelianenko counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.

And that's the end of the fight!
Andrei Emelianenko showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Emelianenko, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
