Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the welterweight championship of the world! Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Dan Henderson! And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
5 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Justin Starr ! The judges for this bout are Alyssa Summers, Columbo Gatti and Franklyn Lucas.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! A slow jab from Henderson misses its intended target. Henderson lands with a shot to the body. Starr shoots in for a double leg but Henderson sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy. Henderson throws a shot from downtown. Starr moves away and avoids it. Henderson is moving around nicely and scores here with a single head shot. Henderson scores with a jab to the body. Henderson is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Starr . Henderson throws the left hand but Starr avoids the punch easily. Henderson thows a body shot but no joy. Henderson throws a body punch but Starr moves out of range. Starr looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Henderson is fending him off so far but Starr persists. Nope, Henderson circles away and we're back to standing. Starr fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Henderson avoids it really well and circles away. Dan Henderson has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Justin Starr . Starr slips a straight right by Henderson. Dan Henderson seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
That's one minute gone in the round. Henderson lands a nice shot to the body.
A telegraphed right hand from Henderson misses the target. Henderson takes a swing at Starr 's ribcage but misses. Henderson moves into range and throws a lovely three punch combination.
It looks like Justin Starr has been cut. Starr shoots in for a takedown but Henderson shows good takedown defense. Henderson gets caught flat footed, as Starr shoots in with a quick takedown into guard. Starr has gone for a leg lock! Henderson slips out almost immediately though and dives into Starr 's guard. Henderson wants to control from the top but Starr keeps moving. Henderson's corner is telling him to maintain position. Henderson has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Starr keeping moving, preventing Henderson from controlling successfully. Henderson will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions. Starr is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Henderson is aware though and is defending well. Starr working a defensive guard here.
Starr is pulling down on Henderson's head. It's preventing any offense from Henderson, at least for the moment. Starr is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Henderson defends well. Starr looks gassed! Henderson trying to control the position from guard on top but Starr is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Henderson controlling from the top position. Henderson knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Starr on the ground. Henderson wants to control from the top but Starr keeps moving.
It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground. Good shot there by Henderson. A looping hook to the body misses from Henderson. Starr does a little dance to reset his feet. Starr shakes his hands off, looking to compose himself, but takes a jab to the jaw whilst he does it. Henderson listening to his corner there, landing a nice uppercut. Starr tries to score a power double leg takedown but Henderson sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Starr somewhat.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Henderson looks to land a left hand but Starr moved out of range nicely. Starr fails to land the takedown. Henderson changes levels and scores with a jab to the body. Starr uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Henderson. Henderson keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl. Henderson connects with a lovely jab that went straight through the gap between Starr 's hands. Starr on the wrong end of a decent looking cross there.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Jab by Henderson. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Dan Henderson dominated that round. The cut man is working on Justin Starr 's cut. The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.
Henderson throws a series of punches but Starr moves out of range. Henderson throws a jab when Starr was well out of range. Starr is looking to score with low kicks. Henderson misses with a wild combination.
Jab from Henderson. Starr feints and as Henderson raises his hands in defense, Starr changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard. Starr drops back looking for a submission - "I'm sorry sir, but I'm gunna break your leg" says Starr as he cranks on the unfortunate limb! Henderson screams and taps out before any major damage is done! Don't mess with Starr ! Nice submission victory there!
