PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Dan Grundy (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Josh Brookins (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Grundy is coming into this fight with a significant injury, which will no doubt have an effect on his cardio. Fingers crossed for an exciting fight - I'm sure both fighters are looking for a nice under the table bonus!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 3 - 0, fighting out of London, Dan Grundy!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Josh Brookins!
The judges for this bout are Andrew Berry, Colin Fotheringham and Donald Grub.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Grundy swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Grundy looks exhausted already! Oh dear, he should have come in in better shape than this!
Grundy tries to clinch up but Brookins circles away and keeps his distance.

Brookins has closed the distance and engaged Grundy in a clinch.

Brookins escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

Brookins shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Grundy's guard.
Brookins controls from within his opponent's guard.
I looks like Brookins might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Brookins working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Brookins's corner is telling him to maintain position.

Brookins trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Josh Brookins.

Brookins moves into the clinch successfully.

Brookins has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Grundy uses from the top position.
Brookins wants to stand up but Grundy is controlling him.
Brookins seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Brookins bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Grundy's guard.
Brookins postures up and lands some nice ground and pound.
Brookins not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Grundy wants to stand up but Brookins is controlling him.
Brookins cracks Grundy with a solid left hand.
Brookins is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.

Brookins distracts Grundy with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.
Grundy is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
Brookins is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
Brookins slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.
Brookins is moving around in side control but his primary objective seems to be to maintain the position.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Brookins lands an elbow.
Grundy pushes Brookins away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Brookins gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control.

Brookins stands up.

Brookins gets a clinch.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!



Brookins has Grundy up against the cage in a clinch.

Brookins trying to control but Grundy is working from the bottom.
Brookins slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Josh Brookins.

Brookins escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

Brookins decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Brookins seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Grundy does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

Brookins is looking to take a break and control but Grundy is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Grundy is trying to stand.

Brookins looks to score some points with some ground and pound.

Brookins passes the guard and advances to mount!

Brookins won't let Grundy get back to his feet... He wants to keep the fight where it is for now.

Brookins controlling the pace for now.
Brookins lands with some strikes.
Grundy in a bad spot here, taking shots to the head.
Brookins postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Grundy looks a forlorn figure.
Grundy really wants to buck Brookins off and get back to his feet.

Brookins get's back to his feet.
Brookins will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Dan Grundy is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Brookins gets the takedown into side control.

Brookins stands up and we're back to a striking position.

Grundy rushes Brookins and presses him up against the cage.
Brookins tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Grundy just stands there and leans against the cage.
A left hand lands to the body for Brookins.

Brookins pulls guard successfully.
Brookins manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Josh Brookins showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!



Grundy gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Brookins to score an easy takedown into full guard.

Brookins stands and steps away. Grundy gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.

Brookins clinches.

Brookins pulls guard successfully.
Grundy tries to stand but Brookins is controlling from the bottom.
Grundy postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Brookins pulls Grundy in close to prevent any damage.

Brookins looking for a sweep. Not yet Brookins, not yet.
Brookins throwing strikes off his back to little effect.
Brookins is pulling down on Grundy's head. It's preventing any offense from Grundy, at least for the moment.
Grundy trying to control but Brookins is working from the bottom.
Brookins wants to sweep but no luck.

Grundy got a little sloppy there for a moment and Brookins has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Grundy has managed to get both his arms back between Brookins's legs - danger averted.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Grundy trying to stand up but can't free himself from Brookins's guard.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Brookins keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Brookins tries to bum rush Grundy with a series of wild strikes but Grundy uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Brookins throws a sloppy head kick and Grundy moves out of range easily.
Brookins is looking to clinch but Grundy is avoiding it.
Grundy dodges the punch combination from Brookins.
Brookins fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Grundy avoids it really well and circles away.

Grundy fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Brookins, pushing him back against the cage.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
A quick uppercut on the inside from Brookins.
Brookins taking a breather.

Brookins breaks from the clinch.
Brookins keeps the fight on the outside.
Grundy tries to grapple but his opponent circles
and Brookins counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body.

Brookins scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.
Grundy wants to get back to his feet.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Grundy is trying to escape the position but Brookins is controlling the position.
Grundy tries to get back to his feet but has found himself mounted instead. Damn, that's gotta suck.
Grundy is trying to stand but he's not in a good position to be doing that! Brookins has taken his back!
A bit of a pause in the action here. Brookins controlling the positon.

And that's the end of the fight!
Josh Brookins comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Brookins has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
