PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Marko Gracie (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ben Supko (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think Gracie might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to Green. Supko comes into a darkened arena with his song building. HERE WE GOOOOO! kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 8 - 4 - 0, fighting out of London, Marko Gracie!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 14 - 9 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Ben Supko!
The judges for this bout are Paul Tew, William Gold and James Glass.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Gracie drives through with a takedown into guard.
Gracie pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Supko is keeping the position for now.
Supko working a defensive guard here.
Gracie missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
Supko is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

Gracie drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Gracie jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
Gracie tries to free his leg and advance position but Supko is retaining full guard.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Gracie blocks a head kick by Supko.

Gracie misses with a takedown attempt - Supko sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.

and Gracie counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Supko's guard now.

Gracie thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Supko's head.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Supko stuffs the takedown.
Supko shoots in but doesn't get the takedown

and Gracie counters with a nice double leg into side control. Supko won't be happy with that.
Gracie is breathing heavily.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Gracie is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Supko knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

Supko wants to control but Gracie postures up.
Supko sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard.
Gracie looks to land a strike but Supko avoids it nicely and regains full guard.

Gracie drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Supko manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Gracie has Supko in his guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Supko thows a big elbow that misses.
Supko trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
Gracie bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Supko's guard.
Supko is controlling Gracie's posture.

Gracie slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.

Gracie looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.
You can see the frustration on Supko's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Gracie throwing strikes but Supko manages to buck up and roll into a nice reversal - now he's on top in side control!
Gracie is looking for a sweep.
Gracie sneaks back into half guard.
Supko working over Gracie with some ground and pound. Gracie looks like he wants out of this position, which is understandable.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Supko dives in and grabs Gracie's left leg, looking for a takedown. Gracie pushes down on Supko's head and hops out.
Gracie connects with a lovely right hand, straight down the pipe.

and Gracie counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Supko's guard now.

Gracie winds up and cracks Supko with a swinging punch to the side of the head.

Gracie postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Marko Gracie overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.

Supko closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Gracie did well to prevent Supko getting side control.

Supko keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Gracie's head.

Supko lands a couple of decent looking shots.

Gracie lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Supko!
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Supko can do anything to dispel that myth.
Supko wants to hold on but Gracie pushes him away.

Gracie throws some wild stikes that Supko manages to avoid easily.
Supko suckers Gracie into throwing a sloppy strike and uses the momentum to reverse the position beautifully! Supko is now in Gracie's guard!

Gracie goes for an armbar but he's fallen flat on his backside there and now Supko is on top in guard.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Gracie is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Gracie has momentary wrist control but Supko slips an elbow through the middle.

The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! This is the final round!


Supko throws a sloppy head kick and Gracie moves out of range easily.

Gracie closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Gracie throws an elbow but Supko slips to the side and avoids it well.

Gracie is pushing down on Supko's leg trying to pass to half guard. Supko is fighting to maintain full guard but Gracie has managed to sneak the leg through.

Gracie postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Supko is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Gracie, into his guard.
Supko loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.

Gracie has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Supko can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Supko lands a couple of decent looking shots.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Supko accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Supko shoots in for a takedown but Gracie shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.

Gracie thows a big elbow that misses, also allowing Supko to regain full guard.

Gracie seems to be looking for submissions.

Gracie is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.

Gracie is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Supko defends it well.

Well Gracie has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
