PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Dan Gable (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ralph Jar (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think Gable might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to Rick Derringer - I am a Real American. Dan Gable had a look across the cage there at his opponent. He definitely means business

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 12 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Dan Gable!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Ralph Jar!
The judges for this bout are Elvis Blanc, Yves DeLean and Trevor Gratis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Gable blocks a jab.
Gable scores with a jab to the jaw.
Gable lands a lovely overhand right.
Jar rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Gable moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Gable defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Jar.

Jar changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Gable looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.

Jar swings around for an armbar but Gable sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Jar's guard.
Gable slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
Gable working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.

Gable stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Jar swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Gable is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Jar.

Gable moves into range and clinches up with Jar.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Gable wants a takedown but no success here.
Jar stalls.
Gable wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee.
Gable wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.
Jar tries for a takedown. No joy.

Jar drops down looking for an ankle pick but Gable pulls his leg out and moves away.
Dan Gable has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Ralph Jar.
Jar throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.

Gable closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Gable lands in his opponent's guard.

Jar is wriggling around trying to escape.

Gable has control of Jar's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Jar regains control of the situation pretty easily.
Gable pausing momentarily but resumes with a couple of decent strikes that do a bit of damage.
A nice elbow there by Gable.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's time! Gable's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.


Gable throws a lazy right hand but Jar sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
Gable cracks Jar with a nice right hand that draws applause from the crowd.
Ralph Jar seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
A swing and a miss from Jar.
Jar throws a hook but Gable avoids it easily.
Gable moving in and out of range nicely, whilst landing the scoring shot.
Nice uppercut lands for Gable. That snapped Jar's head back.
Gable slips a straight right by Jar.
Gable lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Jar circles away quickly and effectively.
Gable bobs and weaves and unloads with a good uppercut.

Gable is using his height advantage well here, landing a good percentage of his punches.
Jar throws a lazy right hand but Gable sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
Nice takedown defense from Gable. No joy for Jar on that attempt.

Jar throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Gable.
Gable dives in and grabs Jar's left leg, looking for a takedown. Jar pushes down on Gable's head and hops out.
Jar looks to land a left hand but Gable moved out of range nicely.
Gable stuns Jar with a nice body shot, before stepping back out of range.

Gable fakes low and throws an overhand right that catches Jar on the side of the head.

Gable uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Jar.
Jar is really struggling to land any decent head shots against his taller opponent.
Gable punishes Jar's body with a nice straight punch.
Jar lands with a cross.
Jab, cross, leg kick. Nice combination by Gable!
Gable comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Jar takes one to the chin there.
Gable stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Gable wants it to stay on the feet.
Gable catches Jar with a nice straight right. He seems pissed - ooooh, it's on now! On like donkey kong!
Gable throws a good cross that connects.
Jar takes a jab on the nose there. A little bit of blood seems to be coming out. Hopefully that won't affect his breathing.

Jar tries to keep at a distance but Gable has taken the fight into the clinch.
Jar has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Gable is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.

Gable breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Dan Gable is winning the standup battle so far.

Gable lands with a hook. Jar tried to avoid it but it clipped the top of his head.
Jar throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
Gable is using his reach advantage well here, landing the more effective single shots from range.

Jar has double underhooks and is working for a body lock takedown. He's got it. The fighters land in half guard but Gable regains guard immediately.

Gable pulls Jar in to control the position.
Gable looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Jar throws a big right hand that misses.
Gable has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Jar missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
Gable wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.
Jar postures up in Gable's guard and throws a big left but Gable blocks it.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.

Gable takes a really solid shot there but just smiles back and shrugs his shoulders.

and Gable cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.

Gable wants to clinch up but Jar keeps it at a distance.

Gable displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Jar throws out the jab.

Jar scores with a one two! Gable had his feet all tangled up there and couldn't avoid the strikes.
Jar swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
Gable sizes up Jar with a pawing jab and scores with a straight right down the middle.

Gable closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Jar did well to prevent Gable getting side control.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Well, if Gable is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.

Gable wants to pass to mount but Jar is defending the position.
Gable prevents Jar from standing back up.
Jar manages to get to full guard.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Jar keeping moving, preventing Gable from controlling successfully.
Ralph Jar has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Jar wants to get back to his feet but Gable is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
Gable wants to control from the top but Jar keeps moving.

Jar looking for submissions from the bottom but instead Gable passes into side control.

And that's the end of the fight!
Dan Gable showed his dominance in that final round.
Well Gable has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
