Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Wanderlei Souza!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Kin Jr!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Cesar, Matheus Silva and Edson Gomes.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Souza shoots in for a takedown but Jr shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Souza.
Jr throws a head kick but Souza moves out of range.
Jr throws a right hand that Souza ducks under and follows up with a left that Souza also avoids with ease.
Jr throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Souza keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Jr looks to land a combination but Souza avoids it well.
Souza slips a jab and a cross from Jr.

Souza shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Souza was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Souza tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
Jr tries to get back to half guard but can't.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Souza's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.
Souza seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Jr for as long as he can get away with.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Souza avoids the attempt from Jr to control.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Souza misses with a series of strikes from mount. He'll no doubt be working on his ground and pound when he gets back to the gym.
Jr keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.

Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Souza prevents Jr from getting the reversal.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Jr throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Souza.

Souza bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Jr tries to get back to his feet but has found himself mounted instead. Damn, that's gotta suck.
Souza looking to control and managing it successfully.

Jr is desperately trying to improve his position but Souza has a good base and remains in mount.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Souza takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

The referee stands the fighters back up. Wanderlei Souza just wasn't active enough from the dominant position.

Souza shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away.

Jr wants to hold on but Souza pushes him away.
Souza tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Jr keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.
Souza controlling from mount.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Wanderlei Souza dominated that second round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!


Jr tries for a takedown but Souza circles away easily

and Souza counters with a nice double leg into half guard.

Souza perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Wanderlei Souza.
Jr misses with a few strikes there.
Jr misses with the combination.
Jr misses with a two punch combination.
Jr takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Souza gets a takedown into half guard.
Souza wants to pass the guard but Jr is defending well.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.
Kin Jr has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Jr is looking to escape.
Jr slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Jr can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Souza controls the pace.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Souza slips nicely into half guard.
Souza is pressing down on Jr's thigh, looking to free his foot. Jr is holding on for now.
Jr tries to roll over but Souza keeps him under control.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Souza is taking a breather. Jr says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Souza stops Jr from getting back to his feet.

And that's the end of the fight!
Wanderlei Souza showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Souza, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
