The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

lidell tries to keep at a distance but xzl has taken the fight into the clinch.
xzl fails to pull the fight into his guard.
xzl lands an elbow that stopped lidell in his tracks for a moment.

It looks like chuck lidell has been cut.
xzl has a couple of punches blocked by lidell.
lidell wants a takedown but no success here.

lidell gets a nice trip takedown into half guard.
lidell seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.
lidell prevents xzl from improving his position.
xzl is refusing to be controlled, as lidell sits in half guard.
xzl tries to get to full guard but lidell has control of the leg.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

xzl throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. lidell was covering up waiting for the punch and xzl finishes the takedown easily into guard.

xzl can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as lidell is looking to escape.

xzl moves into side control, trying to work for a kimura. That looks painful! Will he finish!!?? No, lidell has worked his arm free - good work by lidell!
xzl is breathing heavily.
What's lidell going to do here then? He's in a bit of a pickle.

lidell is looking for a sweep. xzl is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

lidell wants to control but xzl is keeping busy and won't allow it.
xzl wants to free his trapped foot but lidell is holding on for dear life with his legs.
lidell desperately trying to maintain half guard.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
lidell is staying active underneath xzl, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
lidell doesn't manage to clinch there - xzl circles away.
xzl leaves lidell with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.

lidell manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. xzl manages to get himself to full guard.

lidell maintaining the dominant position here and is working for a kimura. He's locked it up! xzl could be in real trouble here! He's trying to wriggle out but lidell has cracked it and xzl is screaming in pain - he's tapped out! Great finish by lidell!
