Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Chuck Liddel (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Viktor Kowalczyk (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 9 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Chuck Liddel!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Viktor Kowalczyk!
The judges for this bout are Paulo Santos, Thiago Cunha and Edson Gomes.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kowalczyk fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Liddel slips a jab from Kowalczyk.
The fighters circle momentarily. Liddel darts into range and connects with a nice straight punch.
Kowalczyk looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Liddel is fending him off so far but Kowalczyk persists. Nope, Liddel circles away and we're back to standing.
Kowalczyk misses with a looping right.
Liddel falls off balance throwing a combination

and Kowalczyk counters with a single leg into guard. Liddel didn't expect that.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Liddel is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Liddel pulls Kowalczyk in close to prevent any damage.

Kowalczyk is stalling in the full guard.

Kowalczyk won't allow Liddel to sweep him here.
Kowalczyk trying to control the position from guard on top but Liddel is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Liddel on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Liddel tries to get out of the position.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Liddel uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Kowalczyk.
Liddel smiles there as he lands a nice right hand right on the button.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Kowalczyk swings wildly with a couple of big hooks
and Liddel counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Liddel swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Liddel takes a body punch but keeps moving.
Liddel staying out of range there.

and Kowalczyk counters with a stiff right hand.

so Kowalczyk counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Liddel is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Kowalczyk wants to control from the top but Liddel keeps moving.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Liddel keeping full guard, as Kowalczyk tries to pass.
Kowalczyk with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal.
Kowalczyk is fighting to break Liddel's control of his arms but Liddel is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.
Liddel wants to sweep but no luck.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Kowalczyk accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

Liddel misses with a body punch

and Kowalczyk counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Liddel!
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Kowalczyk takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
Kowalczyk looking to control but Liddel is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.
Kowalczyk landing strikes from the mount and Liddel is in trouble!
Kowalczyk is in the full mount, landing strikes.
Liddel wriggling around on the bottom manages to avoid the strikes thrown by Kowalczyk.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Kowalczyk misses with a series of strikes from mount. He'll no doubt be working on his ground and pound when he gets back to the gym.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Viktor Kowalczyk dominated that round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Kowalczyk is looking to score with low kicks.
Liddel throws a shot from downtown. Kowalczyk moves away and avoids it.
Kowalczyk thows a left - swing and a miss!
Liddel sizes up Kowalczyk with a pawing jab and scores with a straight right down the middle.
Kowalczyk lets the fists fly and connects with a left straight followed by a right hook.


Liddel is rocked!
Liddel loses concentration momentarily and Kowalczyk pounces with a three punch combo! Right, left, right! Liddel crashes face first to the mat, out cold! Kowalczyk finishes this one with a fantastically precise combo! Great stuff.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:32 of round 2, we have a winner by way of KO (Punches). Viktor Kowalczyk!
