PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Lawrence Cohen (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Daniel Burgemeister (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Cohen's entrance music is Season in the Abyss. A fine choice. Burgemeister is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by Lil Scrappy - Head Bussa. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 10 - 9 - 0, fighting out of New York, Lawrence Cohen!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 11 - 6 - 0, fighting out of New York, Daniel Burgemeister!
The judges for this bout are Jorge Garcia, Lou da Vinci and Russell Pearce.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Cohen uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Burgemeister.

Burgemeister gets caught flat footed, as Cohen shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
Burgemeister controlling the position.

Cohen is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
Burgemeister keeping moving, preventing Cohen from controlling successfully.
Cohen controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
Cohen looking to pass the guard.
Cohen trying to control the position from guard on top but Burgemeister is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Cohen pushing down on Burgemeister's thigh, trying to pass to half guard. He's managed it... Nice work.

Burgemeister is refusing to be controlled, as Cohen sits in half guard.
Cohen prevents Burgemeister from improving his position.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Cohen wants to control but Burgemeister is keeping him busy.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Cohen moves away from the strike by Burgemeister.
Burgemeister pushing out the jab but it's not landing.
Daniel Burgemeister seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Cohen is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Burgemeister's half guard.
Cohen content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.

Cohen is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Cohen thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Burgemeister's head.

Burgemeister wants to control but Cohen is keeping busy and won't allow it.
Burgemeister is looking to improve his position.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

Cohen gets the takedown into side control.

Cohen goes for an armbar! This could be all over! Wait, no, Burgemeister rolls with the submission and now he's on top in Cohen's guard! Nice work there by Burgemeister!

Cohen looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Burgemeister stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Cohen swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Burgemeister wants to control from the top but Cohen keeps moving.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Cohen had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Burgemeister defends it easily.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Lawrence Cohen dominated that round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Burgemeister stuffs the takedown attempt from Cohen. Cohen gets slowly back to his feet.
Burgemeister throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Burgemeister throws a jab but it's blocked by Cohen.

Burgemeister clinches with his opponent.
An uppercut on the inside fails to land for Burgemeister.
A right handed body shot lands from Burgemeister.
A head punch blocked on the inside by Cohen.

Cohen pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Burgemeister fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Cohen manages to avoid it.
A jab from Burgemeister finds it's way through Cohen's defenses.
Burgemeister throws an overhand right that lands on Cohen's shoulder, as Cohen tries to avoid the shot.
Burgemeister lands a jab to the nose.
Cohen shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Burgemeister pinned against the cage. Burgemeister gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Cohen fails with the takedown.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Lawrence Cohen. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Burgemeister is looking to clinch but Cohen is avoiding it.
Burgemeister keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Cohen closes the distance and clinches up with Burgemeister, looking for a takedown. Cohen pushes Burgemeister against the cage but Burgemeister circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Burgemeister throws a jab when Cohen was well out of range.
Horrible takedown by Cohen or perhaps it was just good defense by Burgemeister which made him look bad.
Burgemeister throws a lazy right hand but Cohen sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
Burgemeister thows a left - swing and a miss!
The crowd cheers as Burgemeister lands an impressive looking overhand right. Cohen doesn't seem phased though.

Cohen looking for a takedown here - he's got it.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Burgemeister wants to sweep but no luck.
Burgemeister pulls Cohen in close to his closed guard and prevents Cohen from doing any damage or advancing position.
Cohen slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Burgemeister looking for a sweep. Not yet Burgemeister, not yet.

Cohen drops back, looking for a kneebar! Burgemeister looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Burgemeister looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Burgemeister!
Cohen tries to bench press Burgemeister off him but Burgemeister keeps the position.
Cohen is working hard here to advance position.
Burgemeister wants to lay and pray for a moment but Cohen keeps working.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Cohen is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Burgemeister asserts his dominance and retains side control.

Burgemeister decides to stand back up. Burgemeister steps back and let's Cohen get back to his feet.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Cohen.
Daniel Burgemeister is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Cohen moves out of range as Burgemeister strikes.
The fight stays on the outside here - Burgemeister looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
A lazy left from Burgemeister finds it's target.
Cohen throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Burgemeister's waist but Burgemeister gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Cohen off to one side.

Burgemeister throws a big shot that misses.
Burgemeister throws out a token jab with nothing on it.
Cohen will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Boom, another hit is landed. "You're gunna get knocked out" taunts Burgemeister, as that shot connected.
Burgemeister throws a jab when Cohen was well out of range.
Cohen takes one to the side of the head.
Cohen uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Burgemeister.
Cohen needs to keep his hands up - Burgemeister had a free shot at his head there.
A decent looking cross lands there for Burgemeister.

Cohen shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Burgemeister's guard.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Burgemeister is trying to control the position but Cohen postures up.

Daniel Burgemeister showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Burgemeister smiles there as he lands a nice right hand right on the button.
Cohen blocks a jab.
Burgemeister keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from Cohen.
Burgemeister lands a nice hook to Cohen's body. Cohen takes it in his stride and looks to land his own strikes.

Cohen in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
Cohen stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Burgemeister swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Burgemeister can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Cohen controls the pace.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Cohen takes an uppercut right on the jaw but it doesn't phase him.
Cohen takes a big uppercut there. He seems a bit wobbly but no, he's OK.
Cohen fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Burgemeister avoids it really well and circles away.
Burgemeister misses with a looping left.
Burgemeister lands a straight punch to the body, keeping Cohen at a distance.
Cohen bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.
Burgemeister tries to clinch there but Cohen circles away.
Cohen takes a swing at Burgemeister's ribcage but misses.

Cohen is pinned up against the cage taking some big shots here. The referee is looking closely deciding whether he should stop the fight.
Burgemeister might want to mix his strikes up a bit more. He's just going for head shots at the moment and that can become a bit predictable.
Cohen tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Burgemeister swivels and escapes.
Burgemeister throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Cohen sees it coming and avoids it easily.
Burgemeister wants to clinch.

Burgemeister is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Cohen.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Cohen.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Cohen wants to lay and pray for a moment but Burgemeister keeps working.
Cohen is really struggling to control Burgemeister but he's trying to hold on to the position.
Burgemeister is looking for a sweep.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Daniel Burgemeister comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Burgemeister has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
