Gates's ring entrance music is that housewives' favourite, Nightmare. JP Alcano is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Alcano throws a head kick but Gates moves out of range.
Alcano looks for a takedown but Gates sprawls well.
Alcano shoots in for a takedown but Gates shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Gates throws a good cross that connects.
Gates waving his hands out in front of him, looking to distract Alcano.
Gates missing with a left hand there. Alcano was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.

Gates scores with a jab. Alcano acknowledges it with a nod of the head.

Gates throws a looping overhand right but Alcano ducks down to avoid it.
Gates displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Alcano.

Gates throws a couple of head shots and lands with the final one - a decent hook, which struck Alcano on the side of the head.
Alcano misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.

Gates paws at his opponent with the jab and then lunges in with a straight, right on the button.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Alcano takes a really solid shot there but just smiles back and shrugs his shoulders.

Gates looks to land a combination but Alcano avoids it well.
Alcano is still on wobbly legs! Can Gates finish him?

Gates connects with a superb combination that knocks Alcano out cold! The referee charges across the mat and tackles Gates before he can land any more shots to the unconscious Alcano!
