The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Perkins swings for the body but van der Riet moves out of range.
van der Riet could do with loosing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Perkins throws a body punch but van der Riet moves out of range.
van der Riet lands with a kick to the temple. Perkins shrugs as if to say "is that all you've got?"
van der Riet tries to score a power double leg takedown but Perkins sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten van der Riet somewhat.
Perkins lands a beauty of a right hand that gets the crowd cheering.

It looks like Grant van der Riet has been cut.
van der Riet slips a straight right by Perkins.
Perkins stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Perkins wants it to stay on the feet.
Perkins connects with a lovely right hand, straight down the pipe.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Perkins sizes up van der Riet with a pawing jab and scores with a straight right down the middle.
van der Riet moves in looking to clinch but Perkins pushes him off.
van der Riet avoids the body shot from Perkins.
van der Riet tries to close the distance and clinch but Perkins swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

van der Riet closes the distance and pushes Perkins back into the cage.

van der Riet breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Perkins thows a body shot but no joy.
A slow jab from Perkins misses its intended target.
Perkins throws a nice hook to the body that draws an oooh from the crowd.
van der Riet is breathing heavily.
Perkins fails to land with a series of punches.
Perkins misses with a body shot.
Perkins keeps the fight on the outside.
Perkins throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Perkins scores with a nice head shot.
van der Riet uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Perkins.
van der Riet throws a hard body shot but it just misses.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
van der Riet dives in and grabs Perkins's left leg, looking for a takedown. Perkins pushes down on van der Riet's head and hops out.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Grant van der Riet. That's going to take a lot out of him.
A jab from Perkins finds it's way through van der Riet's defenses.
Perkins ducks low and lands a nice hook to the body of his opponent.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Perkins bobs and weaves and throws out a fast jab that snaps van der Riet's head backwards.

Grant van der Riet's cut is getting worse.
This is turning into a torrid day at the office for van der Riet. He's trying desperately to land a takedown but he's failing miserably and getting slapped silly on the feet to compound his misery.
Perkins drops van der Riet with a big left hand! van der Riet is injured, injured bad! Perkins jumps in and finished him with strikes! The fight is over!
