PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Marcelo Garcia (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Bryan Hurley (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Hurley has chosen Long Haired Country Boy as his entrance music. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Marcelo Garcia!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Bryan Hurley!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Garcia drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Garcia postures up.
Garcia trying to move into half guard but instead Hurley has managed to sweep!
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Garcia is on top in guard.
Hurley is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.

Garcia drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Hurley manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Garcia has Hurley in his guard.

Hurley is working for a kimura but Garcia is defending it quite comfortably.

Hurley is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Garcia defends it well.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Hurley thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Garcia throws a sloppy head kick and Hurley moves out of range easily.

Garcia can't keep his opponent in guard - Hurley advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
Garcia is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Garcia pushes Hurley off looking to stand but Hurley dives back in and keeps control.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Garcia is trying to get back to full guard.
Hurley slows the pace down in half guard.
Let's hope that Hurley has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

Hurley thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Garcia's head.
Garcia wants to control but Hurley is keeping busy and won't allow it.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Hurley moves out of range as Garcia throws a body kick.
Hurley doesn't manage to clinch there - Garcia circles away.

Hurley drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
Garcia can't do much from the bottom here.
Hurley remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.
Hurley lands a nice forearm strike.
Garcia is trying to escape and get back to his feet.

Garcia stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Garcia wants it to stay on the feet.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Hurley doesn't manage to clinch there - Garcia circles away.
Garcia avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Bryan Hurley seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Hurley is looking to clinch.
Garcia throws a hook to the side of Hurley's head but Hurley sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.

Garcia shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Hurley as he avoids it easily.

Hurley changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Garcia looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Marcelo Garcia will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!

Garcia throws a head kick but Hurley moves out of range.
Garcia throws a body kick that sends a sickening thudding noise reverberating around the arena.

and Hurley counters with a single leg into guard. Garcia didn't expect that.
Hurley wants to pass the guard but Garcia is keeping the position.
Hurley is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.

Hurley gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.
Hurley misses with a few strikes there.
Hurley will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.

Hurley is edging up against the cage. He's using the cage to get back to his feet. Nice work there - the fighters are clinched.

Garcia loads up on a big right hand but Hurley slips the punch.
Garcia tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Hurley swivels and escapes.

Garcia ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Hurley moves away.

Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Hurley throws a big right hand that misses.
Garcia lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Hurley!
Hurley manages to regain half guard. Good work.
Hurley is looking to control Garcia's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Hurley avoid being mounted?

Garcia is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Hurley has managed to free his arm - good work.

Garcia is thwarting Hurley's attempts to control the position.
Hurley tries to roll over but Garcia keeps him under control.

Garcia stands up out of the half guard.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Bryan Hurley comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Hurley has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
