Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between John Jones (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Paul Giel (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 6 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, John Jones!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 5 - 1, fighting out of St Petersburg, Paul Giel!
The judges for this bout are Igor Prikhodko, Viktor Lagutenko and Vladimir Khabensky.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Giel throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Jones.
John Jones seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Giel throws a series of punches but Jones moves out of range.
Giel misses with a series of wild punches.
Giel keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
A nice combination there by Giel.
Giel misses with a wild combination.

Ouch! a nice leg kick from Jones, right into the meat.

and Giel counters with a nice body shot.
Giel displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Jones.
Horrible takedown by Jones or perhaps it was just good defense by Giel which made him look bad.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for John Jones. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Jones shoots in looking for a takedown. Giel tries to sprawl out of it but Jones keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Giel manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

Jones is on the wrong end of a nice combination from Giel.

Jones tries to clinch but fails miserably
and Giel counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Giel lands with a two punch combination before moving back out of range.

and Giel counters with a three punch combo that has Jones backing up. Jones nods at Giel to acknowledge the strikes.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Giel scores with a one two! Jones had his feet all tangled up there and couldn't avoid the strikes.
Giel will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.

and Giel makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range.
Giel throws a series of punches but Jones avoids them all with ease.

Jones moves forwards but Giel connects with a nice, crisp jab.
Jones is trying hard to land a takedown here. Giel sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
Giel throws a series of strikes that have Jones backpedaling.
Jones has his head slapped from side to side by a 3 punch combination. That must have hurt him.
Giel lands a jab.

This is turning into a torrid day at the office for Jones. He's trying desperately to land a takedown but he's failing miserably and getting slapped silly on the feet to compound his misery.

Paul Giel is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.

and Giel counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
Giel will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.

Giel throws a series of punches but Jones avoids them all with ease.

Jones seems to be squinting his left eye. Perhaps he got a poke in that previous exchange. Giel shows no mercy and swarms him with a barage of strikes! Jones is backing up but Giel catches him with a final right hook that drops him! Jones covers up and the referee steps in to end the fight! Giel Jumps to his feet and flashes his guns to the crowd. Oh yeah, baby! How'd you like them apples?!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:08 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Paul Giel!
