PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Justin Gabriel (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and JC Coat (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Gabriel kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is Get Out Of My Room. JC Coat acknowledges the crowd's support as he enters the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Justin Gabriel!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, JC Coat!
The judges for this bout are Donatello Bradman, Steve Erwin and Skip Squint.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Coat stuffs the takedown.

Gabriel gets the takedown into side control.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
Coat wants to control but Gabriel postures up.

Gabriel decides to stand back up.
Coat gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily

and Gabriel counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
Coat looks gassed!
Gabriel wants to stand but Coat has hold of a leg and an arm, so he's trapped for now.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Coat tries to get to full guard but Gabriel has control of the leg.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Coat can do anything to dispel that myth.

Coat wants to control but Gabriel is keeping busy and won't allow it.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.

letting Gabriel counter with a right hand.

Gabriel closes the distance and pushes Coat back into the cage.

Gabriel breaks from the clinch.
Gabriel could do with loosing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.

Gabriel shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Gabriel was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!

Coat wants to improve position but instead he's given up his back.
Will Gabriel go for the finish here or will he try and keep control of the position?

Gabriel is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Coat is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.

Gabriel is looking to control Coat but Coat is wriggling around and keeping busy.
Gabriel thows a huge left but connects with the canvas and not his opponent.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Coat has his takedown stuffed
and Gabriel counters with a nice low kick that buckles Coat's knee momentarily.
Justin Gabriel has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of JC Coat.

Gabriel has managed to clinch.
Kneeeeees! The crowd are calling for knees to the body. Gabriel obliges.

Gabriel breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

Gabriel closes the distance and clinches up with Coat, looking for a takedown. Gabriel pushes Coat against the cage but Coat circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

Gabriel shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Coat's guard.
Coat is pulling down on Gabriel's head to control his posture.

Gabriel explodes with a nice body kick and back out of range. Nice work.

and Coat counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.

Coat cracks Gabriel with a solid left hand.
Coat thows a big elbow that misses.
Coat loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.

Coat is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Gabriel's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Gabriel's back!
Coat is trying to stick to Gabriel's back but Gabriel is turning into Coat. He's managed to reverse the position - now he's in Coat's guard. Polite applause from the crowd in appreciation of some nice Jiu Jitsu by Gabriel.
Coat pulls Gabriel in close to his closed guard and prevents Gabriel from doing any damage or advancing position.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Gabriel wants to lay and pray for a moment but Coat keeps working.
Coat is controlling Gabriel's trapped leg to prevent Gabriel from advancing to side control.
Coat has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Gabriel is working away from the top position though.
Gabriel wants to take a breather but Coat is having none of it.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

Gabriel shoots in and bounces Coat off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.

I would just about give that final round to JC Coat.
I think Coat has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
