PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Alberto Vasquez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Rapael Cristop Serpente Gracie (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Rapael Cristop Serpente Gracie!
The judges for this bout are Paulo Santos, Luis Engracia and Seu Braga.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Gracie lands a nice shot to the body.
Vasquez swings away with a body shot that misses

and Gracie counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Vasquez!
Vasquez throwing hammer fists to the chest of Gracie. What's that going to do exactly?
Vasquez is working to get back to half guard.
Vasquez is bucking up trying to escape but Gracie cracks him with another couple of good strikes.
Gracie won't let Vasquez get back to his feet... He wants to keep the fight where it is for now.
Gracie can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Vasquez is looking to escape.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Vasquez's corner are shouting for him to stand up but that's bad cornering - how is he meant to stand up when he's mounted? He should be looking to improve his position on the ground before trying to stand back up.

Gracie prevents Vasquez from getting the reversal.

Gracie controlling the pace for now.
Gracie's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Vasquez is trying to escape the mount.
Gracie tries to control but Vasquez wriggling away.
Vasquez looking to escape from mount but he's given up his back!

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Gracie is persistently looking for the submission but Vasquez is defending it well.
Will Gracie go for the finish here or will he try and keep control of the position?

Vasquez is trying to get back to his feet but he's not managed it yet.
Vasquez staying busy and making it hard for Gracie to control.
Vasquez has the hand control, trying to stop the rear naked choke.
A bit of a pause in the action here. Gracie controlling the positon.

Despite being in the dominant position, Rapael Cristop Serpente Gracie just isn't active enough and the referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Gracie misses with a telegraphed body shot

and Vasquez counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Gracie!
Vasquez knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Gracie on the ground.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Gracie tries to hold on but Vasquez postures up.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Vasquez is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. Gracie can't stay in a position like this for much longer.

Rapael Cristop Serpente Gracie dominated that round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!



Vasquez scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.
Gracie sneaks back into half guard.
Gracie pushes Vasquez off looking to stand but Vasquez dives back in and keeps control.
Vasquez with the ground and pound but Gracie uses the opportunity to regain guard.

Vasquez lands a couple of elbows.

Gracie throws some sloppy strikes off his back.
Gracie is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
Vasquez on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Vasquez tries to get out of the position.
Vasquez on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound.
Vasquez tries to roll over but Gracie keeps him under control.
Vasquez is looking to get back to is feet but Gracie passes into side control.
Vasquez wants to get back to his feet.
Vasquez throwing some weak shots from the bottom that do no damage.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Gracie stands up.

Vasquez scores with a takedown into Gracie's guard.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Gracie is on top in guard.
Vasquez keeping moving, preventing Gracie from controlling successfully.
Vasquez wants to stand but Gracie is controlling the position.

Gracie gets to his feet - Vasquez follows without any prompting.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Vasquez shoots and misses
and Gracie counters with a head kick. That will keep Vasquez thinking before he tries any more sloppy attacks!
A left lands for Vasquez.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
A real battle for position is taking place between these two warriors.
Gracie gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Vasquez.

Gracie escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Vasquez with a lazy takedown attempt
and Gracie counters with a solid body kick.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Alberto Vasquez. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Gracie looks to land a combination but Vasquez avoids it well.
A lazy left from Vasquez finds it's target.
Gracie punishes Vasquez's body with a nice straight punch.

Gracie feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Vasquez is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Vasquez wants to sweep but Gracie has passed to side control!

Rapael Cristop Serpente Gracie showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's time! Vasquez's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. Let's get this one finished - here comes the final round!



Vasquez gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Gracie to score an easy takedown into full guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Gracie won't allow Vasquez to get back to his feet.
Gracie wants to get up but he can't break Vasquez's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

Vasquez wants to stand and escape but Gracie is having none of it.

There's a bit of a scramble here and now Vasquez is on top in guard.
Gracie bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Vasquez's guard.
Gracie looking to control the position here, rather than advance.
Vasquez looking to sweep using the butterfly guard but Gracie puts pay to that idea as he passes nicely into half guard.

Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Gracie in particular looking to stall.
Vasquez slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.
Gracie is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
Gracie passes easily into side control. Nice work.
Vasquez tries to bench press Gracie off him but Gracie keeps the position.

Vasquez manages to work his way to half guard, despite Gracie's best efforts.

Rapael Cristop Serpente Gracie comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Gracie has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
