PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Brad Barnes (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mike Ness (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Barnes comes to the cage accompanied by Red Right Hand - Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 16 - 9 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Brad Barnes!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 12 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Mike Ness!
The judges for this bout are Tiny Johnson, Stewart Dunkirk and Chris Downing.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Barnes slaps away a takedown attempt from Ness, before circling back to the center of the mat.
The crowd cheers as Ness lands an impressive looking overhand right. Barnes doesn't seem phased though.
Ness looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Ness throws a series of punches but Barnes avoids them all with ease.
A left lands for Ness.
Barnes misses with a combination
and Ness counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Ness throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Ness fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Barnes manages to avoid it.

Ness scores with a takedown into Barnes's guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Barnes is looking to stand up but Ness isn't so interested in that idea.
Ness stands up over Barnes, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.

Barnes utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Ness looking to sit in guard and control but Barnes gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
Ness looking to hit a scissor sweep but Barnes is one step ahead there.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Barnes is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

Ness is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Ness scores with a big left there. The judges will like that one.
Ness connects with a looping left hand that seems like it dazed Barnes momentarily.
Barnes avoids the body shot from Ness.
Ness shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Barnes but Barnes pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Brad Barnes has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Mike Ness.

Ness throws a looping overhand right but Barnes ducks down to avoid it.

It looks like Mike Ness has been cut.
Barnes throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Ness.
Ness looks to land a left hand but Barnes moved out of range nicely.
Ness is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Barnes.
Nice shot lands for Barnes.
Ness tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Barnes was well out of range. Poor timing from Ness.

Ness shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Barnes's guard.
Ness stops Barnes from standing up.
Ness pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Barnes is keeping the position for now.
Ness missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.

Ness has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Barnes fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Ness manages to avoid it.
Ness avoids a kick to the body.
Barnes thows a body kick. Ness tries to catch it but that hurt him.
Barnes misses with a body shot.
Barnes chopping away at his opponent's legs.
Ness has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from Barnes finds it's way round the side to connect with Ness's head.
Horrible takedown by Ness or perhaps it was just good defense by Barnes which made him look bad.
Ness is breathing heavily.
A jab from Ness misses.

Barnes cracks Ness with a right hand to the side of the head.
Ness uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Barnes.

Ness shoots in for a takedown and gets it.

Barnes has one foot on Ness's thigh - he pushes off and manages to get back to his feet.
Barnes connects with a looping left hand that seems like it dazed Ness momentarily.
Barnes misses with a series of wild punches.
Ness shoots in but no luck this time.

Barnes takes a shot right to the liver - Bas would have been proud of that punch.
Barnes misses with a kick to the body.
Barnes displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Ness.

Ness lands a nice shot to the body.
Barnes takes a hook to the side of the head. I wonder if that's got his ears ringing.

Barnes throws a series of punches but Ness avoids them all with ease.
Ness fails to land the takedown.
Ness throws out a loose jab but Barnes uses good head movement to avoid it.

Barnes gets caught flat footed, as Ness shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
Barnes wants to stand up but Ness is controlling him.

Barnes avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Ness throwing strikes from guard but Barnes blocks nicely.
Barnes is controlling Ness's posture.
Barnes keeping moving, preventing Ness from controlling successfully.
Barnes looking for a sweep. Not yet Barnes, not yet.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Ness throws a big right hand that misses.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Brad Barnes dominated that second round.
The cut man is working on Mike Ness's cut.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. And we move into the final round!


Barnes displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Ness.
Some wild striking there from Barnes.
Ness thuds a left hand into Barnes's body.
Ness swings wildly with a hook that is half blocked by Barnes.
Ness thows a left - swing and a miss!
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Ness lands a nice shot to the body.
Ness misses with a two punch combination.

Ness is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Barnes's half guard.

Ness is trying to control. Barnes wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
Barnes is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

Barnes makes some distance and scrambles quickly back to his feet. Nice work!
Ness looks to land a right hand but Barnes moved out of range.
A decent looking cross lands there for Barnes.
Mike Ness seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Barnes scores with a kick to the body.

Ness swings away with a body shot that misses
and Barnes counters with a straight punch to the midsection.
Ness takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Barnes connects with a right hand. Ness shakes it off.
Ness takes an uppercut right on the jaw but it doesn't phase him.
Brad Barnes is winning the standup battle so far.
Barnes scores with a sloppy right hand. Ness should have avoided that one.
Donk. Ness catches Barnes right on the button with a cross.
Barnes uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Ness.
Ness tests Barnes's chin there with a solid looking shot.

Ness drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.

Ness tries to score with some ground and pound. Barnes controls his posture well this time though and the shots don't do any damage.
Barnes wants to get back to his feet but Ness drags him back down.
Ness trying to control the action but Barnes is working from the bottom.
Barnes is putting a lot of effort into getting back to his feet here.
Ness in side control lands a nice looking series of punches and elbows.
Ness throwing strikes but Barnes manages to buck up and roll into a nice reversal - now he's on top in side control!

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Ness is trying to get back to half guard.
You can see the frustration on Ness's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Barnes wants to stand but Ness has his arm trapped.

Barnes decides to stand up, so the ref orders Ness to his feet.
Ness fails with the takedown.

And that's the end of the fight!
Brad Barnes showed his dominance in that final round.
I think Barnes has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
