PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Sherman Tribbett (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and DeVaughn Williams (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Sherman Tribbett!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, DeVaughn Williams!
The judges for this bout are Chris Downing, Cecil Peabody and Robert Twigg.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Tribbett tries to clinch there but Williams circles away.

Tribbett has closed the distance and engaged Williams in a clinch.

Tribbett manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back.
Williams pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Tribbett is keeping the position for now.
Tribbett looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Williams's corner is telling him to maintain position.
Williams forces his way into half guard.
Tribbett tries to get to full guard but Williams has control of the leg.

Williams is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Tribbett sees it coming and defends easily.
It looks like Williams is going to stand back up.
Williams wants to pass to mount but Tribbett is defending the position.

Williams is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Williams is thwarting Tribbett's attempts to control the position.

Williams wants to free his trapped foot but Tribbett is holding on for dear life with his legs.

Tribbett looking to work for a kimura from the bottom.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Williams dives in and grabs Tribbett's left leg, looking for a takedown. Tribbett pushes down on Williams's head and hops out.
Williams tries to close the distance and clinch up but Tribbett swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Tribbett misses with a body shot.
Tribbett throws the kick towards the body but Williams avoids it.

Tribbett decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.
Tribbett has freed up his trapped foot and advances to mount.
Williams looks gassed!

Tribbett stands up from the dominant position, so we're back on the feet.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Williams misses with a takedown attempt - Tribbett sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.

Williams scores a takedown into full mount!
Tribbett wants to control but Williams is having none of it.
Tribbett is desperately trying to improve his position but Williams has a good base and remains in mount.

The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
Tribbett is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
Williams tries to stand up but he's trapped just for the moment.

Williams is looking to secure an arm. He's managed it! He's pivoting for an armbar - that looks tight! But Tribbett has managed to get out of it and now he's in a dominant position. Nice work from Tribbett!

Williams wants to stand but Tribbett is controlling the position.
Tribbett postures up and lands a big shot to Williams's brow.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Tribbett accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Williams looking to hit a scissor sweep but Tribbett is one step ahead there.
Tribbett has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

Tribbett got a little sloppy there for a moment and Williams has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Tribbett has managed to get both his arms back between Williams's legs - danger averted.
Tribbett wants to control from the top but Williams keeps moving.
Tribbett pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Williams is keeping the position for now.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Tribbett slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.

Williams shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
Williams tries to stand but Tribbett is controlling from the bottom.
Williams pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Tribbett is keeping the position for now.

Tribbett is looking for a triangle but Williams pushes his legs off easily.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Tribbett controls Williams momentarily but Williams frees himself.
Tribbett looking to sweep using the butterfly guard but Williams puts pay to that idea as he passes nicely into half guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Sherman Tribbett will probably get the nod.
That's time! Tribbett's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.



Williams gets a takedown into half guard.
Williams wants to take a breather but Tribbett is having none of it.
Tribbett punching from the bottom.
Tribbett pushes Williams off looking to stand but Williams dives back in and keeps control.
Williams is thwarting Tribbett's attempts to control the position.

Williams seems to be trying to get a kimura but instead Tribbett has recovered full guard.
Both fighters really going for it on the ground here!
Tribbett has a closed guard, preventing Williams from standing up.
Williams postures up.

Tribbett throws a couple of weedy looking strikes off his back.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Williams dodges the punch combination from Tribbett.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Tribbett blocks a head kick by Williams.
Horrible takedown by Williams or perhaps it was just good defense by Tribbett which made him look bad.

Tribbett closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Williams did well to prevent Tribbett getting side control.
Tribbett tries to pass the half guard into mount. Williams knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
Williams makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Williams.
Tribbett looking to sit in guard and control but Williams gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Williams drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Williams jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Williams accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Williams working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Williams throwing strikes from guard but Tribbett blocks nicely.
Williams tries to free his leg and advance position but Tribbett is retaining full guard.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Tribbett wants to clinch but Williams slips to the side

and Williams counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Williams trying to pass the guard. He's being very persistent here but Tribbett manages to land a sweep and now he's on top!
Tribbett won't allow Williams to sweep him here.
Tribbett wants to control from the top but Williams keeps moving.
Williams not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
DeVaughn Williams has got the better of the ground game so far.
Williams might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Tribbett kaven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.
Tribbett passes into half guard.
Williams controlling the position for now.
Tribbett passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Williams!

Williams is in all sorts of trouble here.

Tribbett quickly switches position and commits to an armbar! It's a big risk for Tribbett but it's paid off an Williams is forced to tap! Nice work by Tribbett.
