PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Michael Jordan (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Bu Ang (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Michael Jordan!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Bu Ang!
The judges for this bout are Donatello Bradman, Hugh Johnson and Damien Edna.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Ang changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Jordan tries to avoid it but Ang manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Jordan to the ground. Jordan escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

Ang shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Jordan napping and manages to drive through into side control!
Jordan taking punishment in the form of punches.
Ang has knee on belly momentarily but Jordan bucks him off and regains half guard.
Ang perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.
Jordan trying to control from the bottom.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Ang takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
Ang is thwarting Jordan's attempts to control the position.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Ang content to control rather than advance.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Ang connects with a nice short shot to Jordan's temple.
Nice strikes from Ang there.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Ang sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Jordan defending well though.
Jordan is looking to control Ang's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Jordan avoid being mounted?
Jordan has hold of Ang's hands but Ang slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.
Ang not doing much here.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Jordan wants to control but Ang is keeping busy and won't allow it.
Ang throwing shots but Jordan is blocking nicely.
The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Ang lands a nice short elbow.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Ang slows the pace down in half guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Bu Ang dominated that round.
That's time! Jordan's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.



Ang looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
Jordan is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Ang is figuring out what he wants to do next.

That's one minute gone in the round.

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Bu Ang.
Jordan stuffs the takedown attempt from Ang. Ang gets slowly back to his feet.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Ang is defended easily by Jordan.

Ang shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Ang showed some decent athleticism there.
Ang is breathing heavily.
Ang thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Ang wants to take a breather but Jordan is having none of it.
Jordan trying to hold on to Ang's head to control him but Ang postures up.
Jordan is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Ang is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Ang not landing any meaningful shots this time.
Ang lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.

Ang is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
Ang prevents Jordan from improving his position.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Ang has a takedown stuffed.
Michael Jordan has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Bu Ang.

Ang shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.

Ang postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Jordan is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Ang, into his guard.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Jordan passes Ang's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Bu Ang showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. This is the final round!


Jordan fails with the takedown

and Ang counters with a nice double leg into side control. Jordan won't be happy with that.
Ang misses with the ground and pound.
Ang is maintaining the dominant position - no doubt Jordan will start to get frustrated soon if he's not already.
Ang scores with a couple of short elbows.
Jordan wants to control but Ang postures up.
Ang takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Jordan trying to remain calm as Ang controls from the top position.
Jordan struggling a bit here.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Ang throws a knee to the body but it doesn't do much damage.
You can see the frustration on Jordan's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

Ang looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into mount! Oh, that's bad for Jordan!
Ang trying to control but he's not successful this time.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Ang controlling from the full mount.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Ang looking to finish Jordan with some ground and pound. This is bad for Jordan!

Bu Ang comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I've got Ang winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
