PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between James Polk (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Charlie Baker (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Baker is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: Kanye West-Power. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 10 - 6 - 0, fighting out of New York, James Polk!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Charlie Baker!
The judges for this bout are Elvis Blanc, Trevor Gratis and Ian Loll.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Polk loads up on a big right hand but Baker slips the punch.
Baker throws a decent looking leg kick but it doesn't land clean.
Baker throws a front kick aimed at Polk's knee but Polk avoids it well.
Baker throws a body kick that misses.
Polk has his head slapped from side to side by a 3 punch combination. That must have hurt him.
Baker ducks under a wild hook from Polk.
Baker throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Baker fails in his attempt to clinch.
Polk misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Baker.
Polk turns his hip over beautifully as he lands a nice leg kick.
Baker misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
A head kick misses from Polk.
Baker tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Polk swivels and escapes.
Baker swings wildly with a hook that is half blocked by Polk.
Polk bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.
Baker looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
James Polk has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Charlie Baker.

Baker loads up on a big right hand but Polk slips the punch.
Baker on the wrong end of a nice hook.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Baker is defended easily by Polk.
Polk ducks under a wild hook from Baker.

Polk instigates a clinch.
Polk misses with the head strike.
Baker blocking some punches.

Polk's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Polk pushing out the jab but it's not landing.
Polk lands a jab.
Baker fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.

Polk throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Baker sees it coming and avoids it easily.
A low kick from Baker is predictable there
and Polk makes the exchange count by landing a cracking kick to the body. Baker really felt that one!
James Polk is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Baker closes the distance but Polk moves to the side
and Polk cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
Polk defending well as Baker loads up on a big left hand.
A telegraphed right hand from Polk misses the target.
Charlie Baker seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Baker throws a leg kick
and Polk connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.

Baker feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Baker wants to pass the guard but Polk is keeping the position.
Baker wanted to stand there but Polk had control of the position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Baker has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Polk is proving hard to escape from.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Baker pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Polk is keeping the position for now.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Baker has his takedown stuffed

Polk keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Polk steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Baker.
Baker throws a leg kick that misses.
A big left from Baker misses.

and Polk counters with a slapping leg kick.
Baker throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Polk drops his hands momentarily and Baker takes advantage with a crisp shot to the head.
Polk turns his hip over beautifully as he lands a nice leg kick.
Polk checks a low kick from Baker.
Polk keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from Baker.
Polk takes an uppercut right on the button but keeps his composure.
Baker misses with a body punch
and Polk counters with a good low kick that Baker was not able to check.
Baker throws a leg kick
and Baker takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
Polk thumps Baker with a low kick.
Polk scores with a hook.
Baker throws a leg kick

and Polk counters by clinching up.
Polk lands a hook to the body. It's hard to tell if that hurt Baker or not.
Polk content to slow the pace in the clinch.
Polk lands a nice looking hook to the body, against the cage.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Baker changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Polk fights it off and pushes away nicely.
Baker is breathing heavily.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Polk connects with the punch.
Baker on the receiving end of a decent leg kick there by Polk. Polk obviously looking to wear him down.
Polk cracks Baker with a nasty uppercut that draws ooohs from the crowd and sends Baker tumbling backwards onto the mat. He tries to recover but Polk pounces and lands a hail of unanswered strikes that forces the referee to step in to end the fight! Baker is not happy but he gave the referee no choice!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:24 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). James Polk!
