PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Jay Roc (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Thomas Look (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Roc comes into the arena with Hey Man, Nice Shot blaring out of the sound system. Thomas Look will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 9 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Jay Roc!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Thomas Look!
The judges for this bout are Hirohito Nitta, Shirou Masuda and Yuuki Gou.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Roc feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Roc wants to control from the top but Look keeps moving.
Roc pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Look is keeping the position for now.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Roc trying to control the position from guard on top but Look is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Roc stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Look swivels though and keeps the full guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Roc trying to pass the guard. He's being very persistent here but Look manages to land a sweep and now he's on top!
Roc tries to land a sweep but no joy.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Look swings for the body but Roc moves out of range.
A nice leg kick lands there from Look.
Look connects with a body shot.
Look throws the kick towards the body but Roc avoids it.
Look uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Roc.
Look lands with a nice low kick. That'll leave a bruise.
Thomas Look is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Look loads up on a big right hand but Roc slips the punch.
Thomas Look seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Look misses with a shot to the body

and Roc counters by clinching up.
Look is trying to stall.
Roc is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Look pulls him back up using the underhooks.
A right handed body shot lands from Roc.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Roc tries to pull guard but Look holds him up against the cage and eventually Roc drops back down to his feet.

Look's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.

Roc closes the distance and pushes Look back into the cage.
Roc is stalling here. The referee will be looking to step in if he doesn't pick up the pace.
Roc lands a body punch.

Roc gets control of Look's arms and successfully pulls guard. Roc will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.
Look trying to control the position from guard on top but Roc is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Roc working for a triangle but Look defends it easily.
Roc being controlled here, momentarily.
Look stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Roc swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Roc has his foot on Look's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Look works his way back into a safe position though.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Roc looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Look is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
Roc will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Roc throwing his legs up looking for a triangle.
Look stopping the sweep attempt from Roc.
Look wants to pass the guard but Roc is keeping the position.
Look trying to control but Roc is working from the bottom.

Roc working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Look doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Look manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Look must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Look trying to control the position from guard on top but Roc is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Roc looking for a sweep. Not yet Roc, not yet.
Look trying to control but Roc is working from the bottom.
Roc tries to land a sweep but no joy.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Roc throws a leg kick
and Look counters with an outside leg kick.
Look misses with a kick to the body.
Look looks for the body kick but Roc saw that one coming.
Look lands a head kick!
Roc wants to clinch.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jay Roc dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.



Roc moves into the clinch successfully.
Roc lands a body punch.
Roc tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
A frustrated look appears on Look's face as he tries to break the clinch.
The referee is keeping an eye on Roc - much more stalling and he will separate the fighters.
An uppercut on the inside fails to land for Look.

Roc ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Roc no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.
Roc keeping moving, preventing Look from controlling successfully.
Roc wants to sweep but no luck.

Roc is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Look is aware though and is defending well.

Roc is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Look wants to stand but Roc has a closed guard, so he can't escape.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Roc is on top in guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Roc trying to control the position from guard on top but Look is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Roc is really struggling to control Look but he's trying to hold on to the position.
Roc slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Roc throws a big right hand that misses.
Roc pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Look is keeping the position for now.
Look working a defensive guard here.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Look misses with a jab to the body

and Roc holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.
Roc is trying to drag Look to the mat but Look just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.

Roc pulls guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Look accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Roc wants to sweep but no luck.
Look stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Roc swivels though and keeps the full guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Roc is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Look defends well.
Roc is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
Roc trying to control from half guard but Look is working away.

Roc maintaining the dominant position here and is working for a kimura. He's locked it up! Look could be in real trouble here! He's trying to wriggle out but Roc has cracked it and Look is screaming in pain - he's tapped out! Great finish by Roc!
