PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Weltto Wirtanen (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Don Pakundo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Wirtanen kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is Mt Eden Dubstep - Sierra Leone. Weltto Wirtanen has the edge in experience - let's see if he can make that count tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Weltto Wirtanen!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Don Pakundo!
The judges for this bout are Arvi Lind, Ben Zyskovitsi and Matti Vanhoillinen.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Pakundo drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
Wirtanen gets back to half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Pakundo tries to pass the half guard into mount. Wirtanen knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
Wirtanen tries to roll over but Pakundo keeps him under control.
Wirtanen moves into full guard.
Pakundo wanted to stand there but Wirtanen had control of the position.
Wirtanen pulls Pakundo in close to prevent any damage.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Pakundo stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Wirtanen swivels though and keeps the full guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Wirtanen looking to hit a scissor sweep but Pakundo is one step ahead there.

Wirtanen is edging up against the cage. He's using the cage to get back to his feet. Nice work there - the fighters are clinched.
Wirtanen could do with loosing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Pakundo is trying to break the clinch but Wirtanen is controlling him.
Pakundo fails to pull the fight into his guard.

Wirtanen turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Wirtanen manages to end up in side control.

Pakundo bucks up and manages to escape back to his feet!
Pakundo looks for the body kick but Wirtanen saw that one coming.

Pakundo pivots as if he's going to throw a leg kick but stops half way.
Nice sprawl there from Wirtanen as Pakundo shoots in.
Pakundo shoots in looking for a takedown. Wirtanen tries to sprawl out of it but Pakundo keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Wirtanen manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Weltto Wirtanen has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Don Pakundo.
Pakundo fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Wirtanen avoids it really well and circles away.
Pakundo shoots in but Wirtanen avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Pakundo looks gassed!

Wirtanen clinches up with Pakundo and pushes him back against the cage.
Pakundo is looking to break free of the clinch but Wirtanen has double underhooks.
Pakundo wants a takedown.
A head punch blocked on the inside by Wirtanen.

Wirtanen pulls guard effortlessly.
Pakundo must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Wirtanen working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Pakundo doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Oh but Wirtanen is tightening it up a little... Pakundo has to be careful here... He's got his foot tucked under now, this looks tight! Pakundo reacted too slowly and this one could be over in a matter of seconds! YES! Pakundo taps out! nice BJJ there by Wirtanen!
