PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Nelson Liriano (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Kumina Sato (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Kumina Sato told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Kumina Sato!
The judges for this bout are Tarja Halkonen, Johanna Lukiainen and Arvi Lind.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Sato thows a body kick. Liriano tries to catch it but that hurt him.
Sato tries to clinch up but Liriano circles away and keeps his distance.

and Sato makes him pay by landing a thudding low kick.
Liriano throws a one two combo.
Liriano misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Sato.
A slow jab from Liriano misses its intended target.
Sato avoids a lazy jab quite easily.

Sato feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Liriano pulls Sato in close to prevent any damage.
Sato advances to half guard.
Liriano keeps control of the position for the meantime.
Liriano wants to control but Sato is keeping busy.

Sato keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action.
Liriano keeping control of the leg, stopping his opponent passing to mount.

Liriano is staying active underneath Sato, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Sato is looking to pass the guard... He's managed it - he's now in full mount!

Sato can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Liriano is looking to escape.

Sato moves to the back.
Sato wants to control the position but Liriano frees himself and scrambles - Sato manages to regain control in side control.

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Kumina Sato.
Liriano lunges in with an uppercut that skims his opponent's chin.
Sato feints and then cracks Liriano's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Liriano down.
A head kick misses from Sato.
Liriano wants to clinch.
Nelson Liriano is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Sato checks a low kick. Bone on bone - not my idea of a good time.
Sato looks shocked there as he takes a right hand to the temple.
Sato uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Liriano.
Sato lands with a right hand.

A big right from Liriano misses.
Sato closes the distance and takes a jab right on the nose as he does so.
A telegraphed right hand from Liriano misses the target.
Liriano bobs and weaves and then throws a good body kick.
Liriano throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Liriano takes a thudding leg kick, right into the meat of the thigh.
Liriano lands a two punch combo.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Liriano closes the distance but Sato moves to the side
and Sato counters with a head kick. That will keep Liriano thinking before he tries any more sloppy attacks!
A looping hook to the body misses from Sato. Liriano does a little dance to reset his feet.
Liriano drops Sato with a straight right hand, right on the button! Liriano follows him down to the mat and pounds him out with hammerfists until the referee jumps in to end the fight!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:39 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Nelson Liriano!
