Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Mathew Swoop!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 1, fighting out of Las Vegas, Joe Kaplan!
The judges for this bout are Robert Twigg, Alan Glass and Wesley Smith.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kaplan tries to clinch but Swoop moves out of range.
Kaplan doesn't manage to clinch there - Swoop circles away.
Mathew Swoop seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Swoop thumps Kaplan with a low kick.
Nice sprawl there from Kaplan as Swoop shoots in.

Swoop throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Kaplan tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Swoop is in Kaplan's guard.
Kaplan is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Kaplan is trying to hold Swoop in close to prevent damage but Swoop has managed to pass into half guard.
Swoop trying to control from half guard but Kaplan is working away.
Kaplan wants to get back to his feet.

Swoop decides to return to a standing position.

Kaplan fails with an attempt to clinch.

Swoop closes the distance and clinches.
Swoop stalling against the cage.

It looks like Joe Kaplan has been cut.

Swoop gets double underhooks and manages to take the fight to the ground.
Kaplan wants to sweep but no luck.
Swoop won't allow Kaplan to get back to his feet.
Kaplan looking for a sweep. Not yet Kaplan, not yet.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Swoop pushes down on Kaplan's leg and manages to get into half guard.

Swoop moves into full mount! Kaplan won't be happy about that!

Swoop is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Kaplan can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.

Swoop trying to control but Kaplan is having none of it.

Kaplan tries to hold on but Swoop pushes him away.
Kaplan is desperately trying to get back to half guard.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Swoop controlling from mount.
The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Swoop cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Mathew Swoop dominated that round.
The cut man is working on Joe Kaplan's cut.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!



Swoop clinches up against the cage.
Swoop slows down the pace here.

Swoop breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

Swoop clinches up with Kaplan and pushes him back against the cage.
Swoop's corner are urging him to control the action in the clinch for a moment, rather than mount any serious offense. I'm sure the crowd appreciate those instructions... not.
Kaplan tries to break free but Swoop pushes him back against the cage.
Kaplan tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Swoop smiles and moves away.
Kaplan shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Swoop defends it nicely.
Kaplan tries to close the distance and clinch up but Swoop swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Kaplan moves in looking to clinch but Swoop pushes him off.

Swoop has closed the distance and engaged Kaplan in a clinch.
Swoop with a knee to the head.

Kaplan is fighting off a takedown attempt but Swoop is just too persistent for him and manages to trip Kaplan to the mat. Kaplan regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat.

Swoop gets to his feet. Kaplan looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!

Swoop gets the takedown into side control.
Swoop takes a little break here. Kaplan wants to take advantage but he is being controlled well.
Kaplan really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Swoop. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Swoop decides to take the fight back to the feet.
Mathew Swoop is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Swoop shoots for a takedown but Kaplan saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.

Swoop forces Kaplan back against the cage and clinches.
Nice elbow from Swoop.
Swoop unloads a knee to the mid-section.
Kaplan is breathing heavily.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Kaplan drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Swoop gets the underhooks and prevents it.
Mathew Swoop has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Joe Kaplan.

Swoop breaks the clinch.
Wow, both these guys are really going for it!

Mathew Swoop overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Kaplan is in all sorts of trouble here.

Kaplan sneaks a leg back under and regains half guard and is working straight away to try and get back to guard. He hasn't managed just yet though.

Swoop stands up from half guard... He's had enough of that ground malarky for the time being.
Swoop avoids the head kick by Kaplan.

Swoop drives through and clinches with Kaplan against the cage.
Swoop dictating the pace here, as the fighters clinch against the cage.

Swoop jumps into guard, dragging Kaplan to the mat.
Swoop avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Swoop manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!
Swoop takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. This is the final round!

Kaplan wants to control the position but Swoop says "no thanks buddy" and passes to half guard.
Kaplan is trying to stand up here but Swoop is controlling him well.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Swoop escapes and gets back to his feet.
Nice takedown defense from Kaplan. No joy for Swoop on that attempt.
Swoop shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Kaplan sprawls well. Kaplan wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Swoop gets slowly back to his feet.
Swoop is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Kaplan can do to turn this around?
Kaplan stalks Swoop and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into Swoop's face. Swoop staggers backwards, shaken.
Swoop tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Kaplan swivels and escapes.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Mathew Swoop. That's going to take a lot out of him.

No joy there for Kaplan, who threw a few shots but didn't land.

Swoop forces Kaplan back against the cage and clinches.

Swoop breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Kaplan shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.

Swoop clinches.

Swoop drags the fight down to the ground.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Kaplan accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Kaplan postures up and lands a big shot to Swoop's brow.
Swoop will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Kaplan has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Swoop is proving hard to escape from.
Kaplan takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Kaplan throws a strike but Swoop rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Kaplan can do anything to dispel that myth.
Swoop slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Swoop decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Kaplan, up you get!
No luck for Swoop with that takedown attempt.
Kaplan swings for the body but Swoop moves out of range.
Some wild striking there from Kaplan.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Kaplan gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Swoop to score an easy takedown into full guard.
Kaplan has a butterfly guard looking to sweep but Swoop has passed into side control.
Swoop cracks Kaplan with an elbow. That is naaassty.
Mathew Swoop is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Swoop controls the position.
Joe Kaplan has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Kaplan looks to move to half guard but instead Swoop has passed into mount! Damn!

And that's the end of the fight!
Mathew Swoop showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Swoop, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
