PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Philip Farmery (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Barry Romero (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Philip Farmery!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Barry Romero!
The judges for this bout are James Ackerman, Richard Clark and Steven Brown.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Romero throws a right and a left that both miss.
Farmery throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Romero's waist but Romero gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Farmery off to one side.
Wow, both these guys are really going for it!
Romero stuffs the takedown.

Romero scores with a takedown into Farmery's guard.

Farmery is looking for a triangle but Romero pushes his legs off easily.

Romero drops back looking for a leg! Farmery is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Farmery manages to kick Romero off! Romero jumps back into Farmery's guard.

Farmery looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Romero is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
Romero trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.

Farmery is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Farmery really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Romero postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Farmery is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Romero, into his guard.

Farmery has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Romero can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Romero thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

Farmery is active off his back here, looking for submissions.

Farmery is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Romero defends well.

Romero has gone for a leg lock! Farmery slips out almost immediately though and dives into Romero's guard.
Farmery with a flurry of punches that miss.
Romero keeping moving, preventing Farmery from controlling successfully.
Farmery is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Romero is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.

Farmery drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Romero dives on top into guard.

Romero postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Farmery is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Romero, into his guard.

Farmery is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Romero defends it well.
Farmery seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Romero does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

Farmery is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.

Farmery will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Romero avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Farmery.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Philip Farmery dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Farmery fails with the takedown

and Romero counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Farmery!

Romero has control of Farmery's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Farmery regains control of the situation pretty easily.
Farmery is wriggling around trying to escape.
Romero avoids the attempt from Farmery to control.

Romero is working on an americana here. Ooh, that looks pretty nasty! Nope, Farmery has managed to escape the submission attempt.
Farmery slips a leg in and gets back to half guard.

Farmery is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Romero pulls his head out easily.

Romero is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Farmery is just riding it out for now. Romero eventually gives up the hold.
Farmery manages to get to full guard.
Romero is breathing heavily.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Farmery has managed to work for a loose triangle. I think Romero should be able to defend this one pretty easily though. Oh, Farmery has tightened it up now! Romero should have reacted faster there - he's in big trouble and yes, he's tapped out! This one is all over!
