PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Mick Frey (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jake Zimmerman (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.

The judges for this bout are Albert Achterberg, Paul Aken and Patrick Alders.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Frey throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Zimmerman's waist but Zimmerman gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Frey off to one side.

and Frey counters with a head kick. That will keep Zimmerman thinking before he tries any more sloppy attacks!

and Zimmerman decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Frey's guard.

and Frey counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.

and Frey counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Frey throws a strike but Zimmerman rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Frey darts in and clinches Zimmerman up against the cage.

Frey breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

Frey closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Zimmerman did well to prevent Frey getting side control.
Zimmerman is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Frey's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Frey's back!

Zimmerman is edging up against the cage. He's using the cage to get back to his feet. Nice work there - the fighters are clinched.
Frey jumps guard but Zimmerman stands there with Frey around his waist. Frey gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Frey wanted to stand there but Zimmerman had control of the position.

The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Frey connects with a nice short shot to Zimmerman's temple.

Frey has control of Zimmerman's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Zimmerman regains control of the situation pretty easily.

Frey is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Zimmerman can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Frey is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.

Zimmerman is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Frey is aware though and is defending well.
