PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Caribbean Knight (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ludwig Manres (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Manres has chosen Aqualung - Jethro Tull as his entrance music. Well, the cameraman is lingering on a pretty young lady for a bit too long there. Keep your eyes on the fighters buddy or you'll miss the fighter intros!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the middleweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 8 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Caribbean Knight!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Ludwig Manres!
The judges for this bout are Aafke Stam, Nard Betker and Saam Ante.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Manres takes a kick to the side of the head.
Knight is looking to score with low kicks.
Knight throws a chopping leg kick but Manres manages to avoid taking any serious damage.
Horrible takedown by Manres or perhaps it was just good defense by Knight which made him look bad.
Knight throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Manres takes a nasty kick to the mid section... That should keep him thinking. Does he try and block and risk a head kick landing?

Knight gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.

Knight looking for a guillotine here but Manres defends easily.

Manres is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
Manres pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Knight is keeping the position for now.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Manres pushes down on Knight's leg and manages to get into half guard.
Knight won't allow Manres to pass to mount.

Manres seems to be looking for submissions.
Manres trying to pass the guard but Knight defending well.
Manres thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Knight's head.
Manres is trying to control the action in half guard but Knight is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.

Manres is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Knight slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.
Knight keeping moving, preventing Manres from controlling successfully.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

Manres closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Knight wants to get back to full guard.

Manres looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

Manres is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Knight defends it well.
Manres looks gassed!

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Knight works his way to full guard. Good work.
Knight is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Knight is trying to control but can't.

Manres seems to be looking for submissions.
Manres has freed up his trapped foot and advances to mount.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Manres lands a heavy elbow.

Manres looking to secure an arm triangle but Knight defends it well.

Knight bucks up and throws Manres to the side - he's got back to his feet. Great escape!
Knight stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Knight wants it to stay on the feet.

Manres feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Manres tries to free his leg and advance position but Knight is retaining full guard.

Manres stands up from Knight's guard - Manres perhaps looking for a knockout.
Nice takedown defense from Knight. No joy for Manres on that attempt.
Caribbean Knight has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Ludwig Manres.
Knight throws a body kick that misses.
Like a baseball bat into the meat of his leg there - nice leg kick by Knight.
Manres takes a head kick and shrugs it off.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Knight throws a push kick but Manres slaps the foot to one side.
Manres steps to his left, right into the path of a big body kick from Knight. That one must have hurt.
Knight keeps Manres at a distance using the push kick.
Knight chopping away at his opponent's legs.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
A decent looking body kick lands there for Knight.
A solid leg kick lands there for Knight.
Manres stumbles momentarily as he takes a strong leg kick from Knight.
Knight misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Manres on the receiving end of a decent leg kick there by Knight. Knight obviously looking to wear him down.
Knight with a nice looking leg kick. You could hear that one land in a back row.
Caribbean Knight is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Manres takes a kick to the side of the head.

Wow, both these guys are really going for it!
Manres shoots for a takedown but Knight saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Knight scoring well with a low kick there.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Knight looking to take his opponent's legs away with the low kicks.
Knight throws a head kick that connects with a bit of head and a bit of hand.
Knight throws a feint and then finishes with a kick to the body.
A slapping body kick lands there for Knight.
Knight throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Caribbean Knight dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Knight lands with a nice low kick. That'll leave a bruise.

Manres scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.

Manres wants to work for an arm triangle but Knight is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
Knight wants to control but Manres is keeping busy and won't allow it.
Knight wants to sweep but Manres has passed to side control!
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Manres working the body and head with strikes.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Manres has hold of Knight's arm here. He's working for an Americana. It looks like he might have it! Knight tries to escape but he's just digging himself in deeper - Manres cranks the arm and Knight screams in pain! The ref makes a decision and ends the fight before the tap - no complains from Knight, who is just happy to have his arm attached to his body.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:05 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Americana). Ludwig Manres!
