PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Ryoichi Yukimura (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Terry Johnson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Ryoichi Yukimura had a look across the cage there at his opponent. He definitely means business

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Ryoichi Yukimura!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Terry Johnson!
The judges for this bout are Yukihiro Shimada, Tatsuya Matsuyama and Sosuke Kotani.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Yukimura tries to score a power double leg takedown but Johnson sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Yukimura somewhat.

Yukimura closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Johnson did well to prevent Yukimura getting side control.
Yukimura wants to lay and pray for a moment but Johnson keeps working.

Yukimura seems to be working for a kimura but Johnson defends the submission attempt.

Yukimura is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.

Yukimura stands up from half guard... He's had enough of that ground malarky for the time being.

Johnson tries to clinch but Yukimura is having none of it.

Johnson clinches up with Yukimura and pushes him back against the cage.
Yukimura wants to break free but Johnson has control.

Yukimura has picked Johnson up - he's going for a ride! Yukimura dumps his opponent to the mat with a thud and settles into half guard.

Johnson really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Yukimura. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Yukimura has freed up his trapped foot and advances to mount.

Johnson bucks up and manages to get a nice reversal! He's in guard on the top - nicely done!

Johnson got a little sloppy there for a moment and Yukimura has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Johnson has managed to get both his arms back between Yukimura's legs - danger averted.

Yukimura escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Johnson gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Yukimura is looking to sweep but instead, Johnson has passed into half guard.
Yukimura pushes Johnson off looking to stand but Johnson dives back in and keeps control.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Yukimura works his way to full guard. Good work.
Johnson postures up.

Yukimura working for a triangle but Johnson defends it easily.
Yukimura is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Yukimura looking to hit a scissor sweep but Johnson is one step ahead there.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Yukimura looking to control.
Yukimura looking for a sweep. Not yet Yukimura, not yet.
Yukimura bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Johnson's guard.
Yukimura passes into half guard.
Johnson looks gassed!
Yukimura seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.
Yukimura tries to pass to full mount but Johnson defends it.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Ryoichi Yukimura dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Yukimura circles away from the clinch attempt.
Both fighters are looking to counter, which isn't making for the most exciting fight in the world.
Horrible takedown by Yukimura or perhaps it was just good defense by Johnson which made him look bad.
Yukimura dives in and grabs Johnson's left leg, looking for a takedown. Johnson pushes down on Yukimura's head and hops out.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Johnson stuns Yukimura with a nice body shot, before stepping back out of range.
Johnson moves in looking to clinch but Yukimura pushes him off.
Johnson misses with a wild body shot.

Yukimura fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Ryoichi Yukimura. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Yukimura dives in and grabs Johnson's left leg, looking for a takedown. Johnson pushes down on Yukimura's head and hops out.

Johnson moves in looking to clinch but Yukimura pushes him off.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Yukimura fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Yukimura shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Johnson pinned against the cage. Johnson gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
A big left from Johnson misses.

Johnson throws a nice looking combination but Yukimura bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Nice body punch from Johnson.
Johnson ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Yukimura moves away.

Johnson pushes Yukimura up against the cage in a clinch.
Yukimura has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Johnson is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.
Yukimura slows down the pace here.

Yukimura lands a takedown into guard.

Yukimura is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
Johnson keeping moving, preventing Yukimura from controlling successfully.
Johnson is looking to stand up but Yukimura isn't so interested in that idea.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Johnson is using up a lot of energy trying to get back to his feet. Perhaps he should improve his position first.
Yukimura works over Johnson with some ground and pound from guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close second round but Terry Johnson will probably get the nod - 10:9.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. This is the final round!

Yukimura tries to land a knee to the head but Johnson blocks with his arms.

Yukimura changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Johnson tries to avoid it but Yukimura manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Johnson to the ground. Johnson escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Johnson scores with a reasonable looking shot to the body. Yukimura doesn't seem bothered though.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Yukimura looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Johnson is fending him off so far but Yukimura persists. Nope, Johnson circles away and we're back to standing.
Yukimura moves out of range of the strikes.
Johnson fails with an attempt to clinch.

Johnson moves into range and clinches up with Yukimura.
Nice body punch from Yukimura.
Yukimura is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Johnson pulls him back up using the underhooks.
Johnson tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Yukimura smiles and moves away.
Yukimura shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Johnson but Johnson pushes him off and we're back to square one.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Johnson looks to land a combination but Yukimura avoids it well.
Yukimura uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Johnson.
Yukimura fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Yukimura shoots in and drives through. Johnson sprawls well.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Yukimura shoots in for a double leg but Johnson sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.

Yukimura drives through and clinches with Johnson against the cage.

Johnson manages to pull guard.

Yukimura decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Johnson, up you get!
Yukimura shoots in looking for a takedown. Johnson tries to sprawl out of it but Yukimura keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Johnson manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Yukimura not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.

And that's the end of the fight!
Terry Johnson comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Johnson has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
