PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Bj Penn (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Dan Silva (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Penn has a slight injury, which hopefully won't affect the fight too much. The atmosphere really building for this one as we go over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Bj Penn!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Dan Silva!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Penn fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Silva sprawls well initially but Penn persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Silva is staying active underneath Penn, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Penn is breathing heavily.
Penn perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.

Silva has one foot on Penn's thigh - he pushes off and manages to get back to his feet.

Silva decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Silva wants to get back to his feet.

Silva stands up out of the half guard.

Penn stuffs the takedown.

and Silva counters with a nice double leg into side control. Penn won't be happy with that.

and Silva counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Penn's guard now.

Silva stands up from guard. Let's bang!

Silva shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Penn is trying to defend but Silva finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Silva decides to stand up and try his luck on the feet.

Silva looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Silva escapes and gets back to his feet.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Penn gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily

and Silva decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Penn's guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Dan Silva dominated that round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Silva decides he's had enough of the ground and stands up.

Penn wants to control but Silva is keeping him busy.

Dan Silva showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Bj Penn.

Silva is trying to get to the cage to help him get back to his feet.
Penn with some aggressive grappling here, looking for the finish.
Penn can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Silva is looking to escape.

Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Silva trying desperately to get to his feet.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Penn tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
Silva is really trying hard to get back to his feet.
Penn looking to control and managing it successfully.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Penn goes for an armbar but Silva turns quickly into his guard - lovely anticipation from Silva.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Bj Penn.

Silva feints and as Penn raises his hands in defense, Silva changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Silva won't allow Penn to sweep him here.
Penn throws a couple of weedy looking strikes off his back.
Bj Penn has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Silva got a little sloppy there for a moment and Penn has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Silva has managed to get both his arms back between Penn's legs - danger averted.

And that's the end of the fight!
Bj Penn showed his dominance in that final round.
I think Silva has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
