Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Cain Velasquez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and John Marshall (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Velasquez has a slight injury, which hopefully won't affect the fight too much. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Cain Velasquez!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, John Marshall!
The judges for this bout are Robert Douchet, Steve Smith and Alec Ball.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Marshall shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Velasquez as he jumps to the side.
A punch combination from Velasquez misses.
Marshall fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Marshall is trying hard to land a takedown here. Velasquez sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
Cain Velasquez has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of John Marshall.
Marshall shoots in but Velasquez avoids the takedown attempt easily.

Marshall changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Velasquez looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.

Marshall throws an elbow from mount that misses. Lucky escape for Velasquez because Marshall loaded up on that one.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Marshall tries for a takedown but Velasquez sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Marshall shoots in for a double leg but Velasquez sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Velasquez could do with loosing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Velasquez misses with a jab, cross combination.
Marshall shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Cain Velasquez has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of John Marshall.
Marshall shoots for a double leg takedown but Velasquez sprawls well. He's pushed Marshall's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

Marshall shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Marshall showed some decent athleticism there.

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by John Marshall.

Marshall closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Velasquez to the mat! Velasquez manages to get full guard.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Marshall tries to free his leg and advance position but Velasquez is retaining full guard.

Velasquez utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Marshall stands and throws Velasquez's legs to the side, diving into side control.
A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet.

Marshall sitting in side control, looking to soften his opponent up with elbows and hammerfists but Velasquez is avoiding damage well and looking to escape the position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Marshall advances to full mount.
Marshall has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Let's hope that Marshall has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

Velasquez is looking to get back to his feet - it's going to be hard from this position.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Marshall tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Velasquez in a bad spot here, taking shots to the head.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

John Marshall showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's time! Velasquez's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!


Marshall shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Velasquez pinned against the cage. Velasquez gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Marshall shoots in but no luck this time.
