Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Taika Jim (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Seppo Talasmaa (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Seppo Talasmaa is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Taika Jim!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Seppo Talasmaa!
The judges for this bout are Anni Minnemäki, Roosa Järviläinen and Johanna Lukiainen.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Talasmaa on the wrong end of a vicious looking body shot.

Jim darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
Talasmaa looks gassed!
Jim seems to have lost interest with the ground game and is thinking about standing back up.
Jim landing with strikes to the body and head, softening up his opponent.
Jim looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
Talasmaa is trying to control but can't.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Jim controlling the action here.

Jim decides he's had enough of the ground and stands up.
Talasmaa walks into a left hand.
Jim throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.

Jim shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Talasmaa's guard.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Jim wanted to stand there but Talasmaa had control of the position.

Talasmaa looking to hit a scissor sweep but Jim is one step ahead there.
Jim content to stall in guard here.

Talasmaa throwing his legs up looking for a triangle.
Jim seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

Jim is in close to Talasmaa's body, working some short punches and elbows.
Jim is pushing down on Talasmaa's leg trying to pass to half guard. Talasmaa is fighting to maintain full guard but Jim has managed to sneak the leg through.
Jim wants to stand up but Talasmaa has a hold of him and won't allow it.
Jim content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.
Jim wants to stand but Talasmaa has hold of a leg and an arm, so he's trapped for now.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Talasmaa is looking for a sweep. Jim is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
It looks like Jim is going to stand back up.
Jim is controlling the pace.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jim cracks Talasmaa with a good jab.
Jim misses with the combination.
Jim tries to close the distance and clinch but Talasmaa swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
A combination from Jim does no damage.
Talasmaa throws a body punch but Jim moves out of range.

Jim blocks a jab.
Talasmaa is breathing heavily.

Jim has closed the distance and engaged Talasmaa in a clinch.
Talasmaa changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Jim fights it off and pushes away nicely.
Jim lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Talasmaa circles away quickly and effectively.

Jim closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
Talasmaa has Jim pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Jim manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.

Jim breaks the clinch.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Jim connects with a lovely jab that went straight through the gap between Talasmaa's hands.

Jim gets a trip takedown into half guard.

Talasmaa is pressing down on Jim's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.

Talasmaa had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Jim defends it easily.

Jim forces his way into half guard.

Jim perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.

Jim wants to get back to his feet.
Talasmaa is trying to get back to full guard.

Jim decides to stand up and try his luck on the feet.
Taika Jim seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Jim is looking to clinch but Talasmaa is avoiding it.
Decent striking displayed by Jim there.
Jim lands a jab, followed by a cross and another cross, as Talasmaa backs up against the cage.
Jim digs a good hook to Talasmaa's body.
Jim throws a two punch combo that lands nicely.
Jim rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Talasmaa moves out of range and avoids them all easily.

Jim gets a clinch.

Jim breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Taika Jim dominated that second round.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! This is the final round!


Jim lands a jab. Then a cross. Then finally a nice hook to the body. Good work there by Jim.

Jim is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.

Talasmaa is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

Talasmaa working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Jim doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Jim manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Jim wants to get up but he can't break Talasmaa's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.
Jim knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Talasmaa on the ground.

Talasmaa escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Jim gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.

Jim closes the distance and clinches.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

Jim breaks from the clinch.

Jim rushes Talasmaa and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.

Jim escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

Jim drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Jim is looking to work some ground and pound but Talasmaa has wrist control.
Jim postures up.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Talasmaa working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Jim doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Jim manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Jim has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

Jim gets to his feet - Talasmaa follows without any prompting.
Jim fails with the takedown.
Jim is looking to clinch but Talasmaa is avoiding it.
Jim scores with a nice looking left hook and follows it up with an uppercut!

Jim darts in and clinches Talasmaa up against the cage.

Talasmaa is trying to drag Jim to the mat but Jim just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.
Jim throws a blind hook that connects with the side of Talasmaas head.

Jim has hold of one of Talasmaa's legs. Talasmaa is fighting the takedown attempt but Jim gets the trip and lands the takedown into guard.

Taika Jim is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

Well Jim has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
