PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Lonnie Thug (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Eric Peterson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Peterson has chosen Even Flow by Pearl Jam as his entrance music. Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 8 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Lonnie Thug!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Eric Peterson!
The judges for this bout are Gregory Folan, Robert Douchet and William Peck.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Peterson takes a hook to the side of the head. I wonder if that's got his ears ringing.
Peterson swats away the attempt to clinch by Thug.

Peterson closes the distance and clinches.
Both fighters working to control the clinch.

Thug pulls guard effortlessly.
Thug tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Thug manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Peterson manages to get himself to full guard.
Peterson is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Thug trying to control but Peterson is working from the bottom.
Peterson looking for a sweep. Not yet Peterson, not yet.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Thug is looking to clinch.
Thug wants to clinch.
Thug misses with a looping right.
Peterson tries to score with a leg kick but it misses it's target.
Peterson tries to clinch up but Thug circles away and keeps his distance.
Peterson has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from Thug finds it's way round the side to connect with Peterson's head.

Thug closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Thug lands in his opponent's guard.
Thug slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.

Thug postures up a little and throws a couple of hammerfists but they don't connect properly.
Peterson is trying to improve his position.
Thug wants to control but Peterson is keeping him busy.
Peterson is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Thug off and has taken his back!
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Thug manages to scramble and ends up in full guard, under a barage of strikes . Great composure from Thug.

Peterson won't allow Thug to sweep him here.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Peterson passes easily into side control. Nice work.
Thug manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu!

Thug swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Thug shoots for a double leg takedown but Peterson sprawls well. He's pushed Thug's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

Thug wants to lay and pray for a moment but Peterson keeps working.

Peterson stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Thug swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Peterson must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Peterson is looking to work some ground and pound but Thug has wrist control.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Thug cracks a nice hook into Peterson's ribs.

Thug closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Peterson did well to prevent Thug getting side control.
Peterson flails away from the bottom but he's not doing any damage.
Peterson is trying to get back to full guard.
Thug is looking to advance position but Peterson won't allow it.

Thug is looking for the mount but instead finds himself back in full guard.

Thug throws a strike but Peterson rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

Peterson is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Thug is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Thug has escaped and now he's on top!

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Thug content to stall in guard here.
Thug wants to control from the top but Peterson keeps moving.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Lonnie Thug dominated that second round.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. This is the final round!


Thug clobbers Peterson with an overhand right that has the crowd gasping. That made a horrendous noise.
Thug shoots in and drives through. Peterson sprawls well.
Thug tries to clinch up but Peterson circles away and keeps his distance.
Thug misses with a hook. Peterson ducked under it nicely.
Thug will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Thug shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Peterson as he avoids it easily.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Lonnie Thug. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Thug is looking to clinch.
Lonnie Thug seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Thug wants to clinch up but Peterson keeps it at a distance.

Peterson is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Thug's half guard.

Peterson is trying to work for a kimura but Thug is defending well.
Peterson seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Thug does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

Thug keeping moving, preventing Peterson from controlling successfully.
Thug bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Peterson's guard.

Thug pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Peterson is keeping the position for now.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Peterson throws his legs up looking to secure a triangle. Oh, that looks pretty tight, I gotta say! Thug escapes and throws Peterson's legs to the side, diving into side control!

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Lonnie Thug.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Thug, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
