Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Jose Abad! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Kenny McGrimshaw! The judges for this bout are Radbod Blank, Paulsen Ambrosius and Aafke Stam.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! McGrimshaw shoots in for a takedown but Abad shows good takedown defense. McGrimshaw drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. McGrimshaw trying to control the action but Abad is working from the bottom. McGrimshaw prevents Abad from escaping the position. McGrimshaw is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Abad has escaped the position, nice work there. Abad is trying to control McGrimshaw's posture but McGrimshaw avoids it. Abad is trying to stand back up. He's worked his way up against the cage but McGrimshaw has just dragged him back down to the mat. McGrimshaw wants to control but Abad is keeping him busy. McGrimshaw in side control, throwing shots but Abad defends. McGrimshaw working the ground and pound.
That's one minute gone in the round. McGrimshaw lands a knee to the body and follows it up with some ground and pound to the head. That will wear Abad down.
McGrimshaw lands a decent elbow from side control. McGrimshaw content to control the pace. The referee will try and keep them active though. Abad is looking to regain half guard here but McGrimshaw keeps moving and retains side control. McGrimshaw advances to mount. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Abad is in all sorts of trouble here.
McGrimshaw looking to secure an arm triangle but Abad defends it well. McGrimshaw with good strikes from the mount here! McGrimshaw tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
That's two minutes gone in the round. McGrimshaw working away from the top, dropping strikes. Abad is trying to escape the mount.
McGrimshaw can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Abad is looking to escape. Abad knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for McGrimshaw on the ground. The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily. McGrimshaw sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment. McGrimshaw breaks from Abad's wrist control and lands an elbow. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. McGrimshaw can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Abad is looking to escape.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Abad tries to reverse the position but McGrimshaw maintains control. Abad is looking to get back to his feet - it's going to be hard from this position. Abad is breathing heavily. McGrimshaw controlling from mount. Abad keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.
McGrimshaw controlling the pace for now. McGrimshaw trying to control but Abad is having none of it.
That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action. Abad is wriggling around trying to escape.
McGrimshaw with shots to the head and body - Abad looks very uncomfortable down there. McGrimshaw scoring with some good ground and pound from mount here. Will he manage to finish Abad?
McGrimshaw has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan. McGrimshaw prevents Abad from getting the reversal. McGrimshaw won't let Abad get back to his feet... He wants to keep the fight where it is for now. McGrimshaw tries to control but Abad wriggling away. McGrimshaw get's back to his feet. McGrimshaw shoots in looking for a takedown. Abad tries to sprawl out of it but McGrimshaw keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Abad manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing. McGrimshaw tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Kenny McGrimshaw dominated that round. That's time! Back to the action!
McGrimshaw will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Abad misses with a jab, cross combination.
McGrimshaw tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Abad swivels and escapes. McGrimshaw misses with a takedown attempt - Abad sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses. A head kick misses from McGrimshaw. McGrimshaw closes the distance and clinches up with Abad, looking for a takedown. McGrimshaw pushes Abad against the cage but Abad circles to the side and manages to break the clinch. Jose Abad has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Kenny McGrimshaw. Good exchange - Abad coming out on top. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Abad closes the distance and lands a one-two. McGrimshaw showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Abad.
McGrimshaw throws a front kick aimed at Abad's knee but Abad avoids it well. McGrimshaw is looking to clinch but Abad is avoiding it.
That's one minute gone in the round. McGrimshaw fails with a takedown attempt. McGrimshaw has his head slapped from side to side by a 3 punch combination. That must have hurt him. Nice cross by Abad. Like a baseball bat into the meat of his leg there - nice leg kick by Abad.
The fight stays on the outside here - McGrimshaw looks like he's thinking about clinching though. Jose Abad is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs. McGrimshaw fails miserably with a takedown attempt. McGrimshaw is breathing heavily. Abad scores with a jab to the body. McGrimshaw misses with a takedown attempt - Abad sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
That's two minutes gone in the round. McGrimshaw tries to score a power double leg takedown but Abad sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten McGrimshaw somewhat. Abad closes the distance and lands a one-two. McGrimshaw tries to clinch up but Abad circles away and keeps his distance. Abad throws a combination. McGrimshaw tries to block but a couple of punches get through. Abad keeps the fight on the outside. Abad lands a jab-cross combination. Jose Abad seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Abad chopping away at his opponent's legs.
Abad throws a right and a left that McGrimshaw avoids nicely. Danga de danga de dang - Abad scores with a four punch combination! Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Abad throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Abad throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
McGrimshaw shoots in looking for a takedown. Abad tries to sprawl out of it but McGrimshaw keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Abad manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing. Abad leaves McGrimshaw with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt. Abad closes the distance and lands a one-two. McGrimshaw looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily. Abad lands with an uppercut that bounces McGrimshaw off the cage and back into rage. Abad misses with a few strikes there.
Abad stuffs the takedown attempt from McGrimshaw. McGrimshaw gets slowly back to his feet.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it. Abad slaps away a takedown attempt from McGrimshaw, before circling back to the center of the mat. Abad connects with a looping right hand.
McGrimshaw moves in looking to clinch but Abad pushes him off. Abad misses with a combination
and McGrimshaw counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Abad! Abad is in all sorts of trouble here.
McGrimshaw throws some shoulder strikes here and then postures up. Oh, he's gone for an armbar! Abad has his hands clasped together but McGrimshaw breaks the hold and Abad is forced to tap! This one is aaaaaaaaaaall over! That was lightning fast by McGrimshaw!
