PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Jackson Lake (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jason Rogers (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Lake comes to the cage accompanied by Only The Strong Survive. The crowd seem to be enjoying Rogers's choice of entrance music: "Black and Yellow" - Wiz Khalifa. The atmosphere really building for this one as we go over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

With a record of 5 - 5 - 0, fighting out of New York, Jason Rogers!
The judges for this bout are John Roberts, Bruno Lombardi and Reed Andrews.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Rogers tries to score with a low kick but Lake moves his leg out of the way.

Rogers slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.
Lake is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.

Rogers has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Rogers throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Rogers in particular looking to stall.

The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Rogers connects with a nice short shot to Lake's temple.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Rogers lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Lake circles away quickly and effectively.

Lake shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away.
Rogers wants to get back to his feet.
Lake postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Rogers looks a forlorn figure.

Lake is looking to secure an arm. He's managed it! He's pivoting for an armbar - that looks tight! But Rogers has managed to get out of it and now he's in a dominant position. Nice work from Rogers!

Lake is looking for a triangle here but Rogers uses the submission attempt to pass into side control.
Both fighters really going for it on the ground here!
Lake is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.
Rogers is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.

Lake drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Rogers manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Lake has Rogers in his guard.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Rogers throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Lake works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Jason Rogers will probably get the nod.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Lake takes a jab on the nose. He smiles like he loves it and keeps coming.

Rogers gets in close and instigates a clinch.
Lake keeps control of Rogers as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.
Lake jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Rogers walks away with a smile on his face. Lake gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
Rogers throws a nice looking combination but Lake bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.

Rogers decides to take the fight back to the feet.
Lake tries to score a power double leg takedown but Rogers sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Lake somewhat.

Rogers closes the distance and pushes Lake back into the cage.

Lake tries to throw a body punch but Rogers avoids it by throwing Lake back against the cage.
Rogers is trying to drag Lake to the mat but Lake just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.

Lake has his foot on Rogers's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Rogers works his way back into a safe position though.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Rogers tries to close the distance and clinch but Lake swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

Lake drives through and clinches with Rogers against the cage.

Lake pulls guard successfully.
Rogers trying to control but Lake is working from the bottom.

Lake looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Lake striking off his back but it's not causing Rogers any problems.

Jason Rogers comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Rogers has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
