PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Zak Zinfandel (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mick Lovin (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Lovin comes into a darkened arena with his song building. J.Cole-Who Dat kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! Zak Zinfandel could well score a knockout today. He has the power to get to Mick Lovin's chin.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Lovin shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Lovin showed some decent athleticism there.
Lovin is looking to take a break and control but Zinfandel is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.
Zinfandel is looking for a sweep. Lovin is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Zinfandel is working hard here to advance position.
Lovin perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Zinfandel is looking to improve his position.

Lovin wants to work for an arm triangle but Zinfandel is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
Lovin wants to lay and pray for a moment but Zinfandel keeps working.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Lovin has Zinfandel pressed up against the cage. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. Lovin pulls back from the cage and twists to the side, sending Zinfandel tumbling to the mat - Lovin dives into Zinfandel's guard.

Lovin decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Zinfandel, up you get!

Lovin throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Zinfandel was covering up waiting for the punch and Lovin finishes the takedown easily into guard.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Lovin won't allow Zinfandel to sweep him here.

Lovin postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Zinfandel is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Lovin, into his guard.

Lovin uses the cage to get back to his feet.

Zinfandel throws a lazy head kick

and Lovin counters with a takedown into side control.

Lovin stands up and beckons Zinfandel to his feet.

and Lovin counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
Lovin is trying to control the action in half guard but Zinfandel is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
Lovin thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Zinfandel's head.

Lovin moves into full mount! Zinfandel won't be happy about that!

Lovin is standing up out of mount! Strange tactic there - he must really want this one on the feet!

Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Zinfandel with a nice looking leg kick. You could hear that one land in a back row.
Zinfandel walks into a left hand.
Lovin ducks under a wild hook from Zinfandel.
Lovin clobbers Zinfandel with an overhand right that has the crowd gasping. That made a horrendous noise.

Lovin shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Lovin was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Zinfandel is trying to escape the mount.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Mick Lovin dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Zinfandel is looking to slow Lovin down with leg kicks.
Zinfandel throws a low kick but Lovin avoids it.
Lovin fails with a takedown attempt.
Lovin throws a right and a left that both miss.
Zinfandel tries to land a body kick
and Lovin counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.

Lovin closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Zinfandel is not content to let Lovin control the position.
Lovin wants to stand but Zinfandel has hold of a leg and an arm, so he's trapped for now.

Lovin is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.

Lovin is looking to take a break and control but Zinfandel is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Lovin looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Lovin is breathing heavily.
Lovin wants to control but Zinfandel is keeping him busy.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.

and Lovin decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Zinfandel's guard.
Zinfandel seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.

Lovin lands a really nice looking cross but Zinfandel seems unphased.
Mick Lovin is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
A solid leg kick lands there for Lovin.
Lovin closes this distance looking for a takedown but Zinfandel circles away.

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Mick Lovin showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. This is the final round!
