Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Karpo Karelin (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Masahiko kimura (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Karpo Karelin!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 8 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Masahiko kimura!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Karelin shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Karelin showed some decent athleticism there.
kimura wants to control but Karelin is keeping busy.
kimura is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Karelin's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Karelin's back!

Karelin is staying cool under pressure, defending well against the rear naked choke attempt from his opponent.
Karelin trying to get back to his feet but kimura is in full control for now.

kimura tries to get the hooks in deep but Karelin pushed the leg off.
Karelin knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for kimura on the ground.

The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.
Karelin turns into kimura and is now in his guard.
Karelin postures up and lands a big shot to kimura's brow.

Karelin thows a big elbow that misses.
The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.

Karelin on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Karelin tries to get out of the position.
Karelin is pulling down on kimura's head to control his posture.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
kimura throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Karelin sees it coming and avoids it easily.

Karelin shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Karelin was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Karelin is breathing heavily.
kimura is trying desperately to improve position.
kimura regains half guard.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Masahiko kimura dominated that round.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the ring so we can get back down to business.


kimura bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.
kimura is looking to clinch but Karelin is avoiding it.
kimura looks to land a left hand but Karelin moved out of range nicely.
Karpo Karelin is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Karelin ducks under a wild hook from kimura.
Karelin throws a nice looking combination but kimura bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
kimura is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Karelin.

kimura works for the underhooks and manages to get a trip takedown into guard.
Karelin keeping moving, preventing kimura from controlling successfully.

kimura thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

kimura drops back, looking for a kneebar! Karelin looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Karelin looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Karelin!
kimura is breathing heavily.
kimura tries to bench press Karelin off him but Karelin keeps the position.

Karelin throws a knee to the body but it doesn't do much damage.

Karelin looking to punish the body of his opponent here but kimura is avoiding damage well.
Karelin trying to control the position but kimura is working away.
Sloppy strikes there by Karelin.
kimura misses with an elbow from the bottom.
kimura sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard.
kimura has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Karelin is working away from the top position though.
Masahiko kimura has got the better of the ground game so far.
kimura is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Karelin has decided to stand back up but his arm is trapped. Whilst he's worrying about his arm, kimura works to full guard.
kimura not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Karelin postures up in kimura's guard and throws a big left but kimura blocks it.
Karelin trying to control the position from guard on top but kimura is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
kimura working a defensive guard here.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Karelin gets cracked there but stands up to it.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Karelin takes an uppercut right on the button but keeps his composure.
Karelin misses with a takedown

and kimura holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.
Karelin misses with a hook to the ribs.
Karelin drops down looking for an ankle pick but kimura pulls his leg out and moves away.

Karelin gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows kimura to score an easy takedown into full guard.
Karelin keeping moving, preventing kimura from controlling successfully.

kimura thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
kimura looking to sit in guard and control but Karelin gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
kimura manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!

kimura jumps to the side looking to secure the arm triangle…. Ooooh, that looks tight… Karelin is gargling but he's managed to escape! Nice work there by Karelin and kimura has given up the dominant position trying to land that submission.

kimura working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.
kimura misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.

Masahiko kimura showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's time! Back to the action! The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!


Karelin shoots in but doesn't get the takedown

and kimura counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
kimura wants to lay and pray for a moment but Karelin keeps working.
Karelin is looking for a sweep. kimura is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
kimura is trying to control. Karelin wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
Karelin tries to kick kimura off but kimura keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.

kimura has hold of the far side arm. He's working for the Kimura, can Karelin defend it? kimura steps over the head and cranks it - Karelin is tapping out! That was textbook stuff right there - nice submission victory for kimura!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:49 of round 3, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Masahiko kimura!
