PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Junior Gracie (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Anderson Silver (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Silver has chosen Give me da loot as his entrance music. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 10 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Junior Gracie!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 9 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Anderson Silver!
The judges for this bout are Luis Engracia, Daniel Cesar and Seu Braga.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Silver missing with a left hand there. Gracie was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.
Silver takes a solid shot to the body. That one hurt him but he's trying not to show it.
Silver wants to clinch up but Gracie keeps it at a distance.
Gracie throws a hook but Silver avoids it easily.

Gracie feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Gracie thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Silver managing to control the position.

Gracie drops back, looking for a kneebar! Silver looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Silver looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Silver!
Silver wants to lay and pray for a moment but Gracie keeps working.
A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet.
Gracie wants to control but Silver postures up.
Gracie is trying to improve his position.

Gracie is looking to regain half guard here but Silver keeps moving and retains side control.
Gracie is not content to let Silver control the position.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Gracie stumbles momentarily as he takes a strong leg kick from Silver.

It looks like Junior Gracie has been cut.
Gracie avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Silver doesn't manage to clinch there - Gracie circles away.

Come on Silver - let's have some action - none of this stalling nonsense.
Silver is looking to score with knees to the body. Maybe he'll change it up and go body then head. Gracie is defending well for now.

Gracie tries to pull guard but Silver holds him up against the cage and eventually Gracie drops back down to his feet.
Gracie dodges an elbow strike from Silver.
Silver effectively controlling the action here.
Silver lands a knee to the head there! That was nasty!
Silver lands a left hand that snaps the head of Gracie backwards.
Gracie tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Silver smiles and moves away.
Silver looks to land a left hand but Gracie moved out of range nicely.
Silver blocks a jab.
Gracie scores with a nice right hand.
Gracie getting the better of the striking in that exchange.
The sound of bone on bone echoes around the arena as Gracie checks a leg kick.
Gracie takes a hook to the side of the head. I wonder if that's got his ears ringing.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Silver digs a good hook to Gracie's body.

Silver is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Silver bobbing and weaving, closes the distance and lands a hook to the side of Gracie's head.
Gracie throws a hook but Silver blocks it.

Silver moves into the clinch successfully.
Silver scores with a knee to the head.
Silver lands a nice knee to the body.
Silver throws an elbow but it's blocked.
Silver throws an elbow that misses.
Silver trying to land knees to the body.
Gracie tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Silver smiles and moves away.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Junior Gracie. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Gracie throws a right and a left that Silver avoids nicely.
Gracie throws out a loose jab but Silver uses good head movement to avoid it.
Wow, both these guys are really going for it!

Junior Gracie seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Anderson Silver is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Gracie keeps the fight on the outside.
Silver lands a leg kick. The shin dug right into the meat of the thigh.
Gracie is breathing heavily.

Gracie throws the left hand but Silver avoids the punch easily.
Gracie avoids a punch combination nicely.
Gracie checks the leg kick.
Nice uppercut there from Gracie.
Silver lands an overhand right.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Silver is looking to clinch but Gracie is avoiding it.
Silver stalks Gracie and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into Gracie's face. Gracie staggers backwards, shaken.
Silver keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Silver tries to clinch there but Gracie circles away.
Silver does a little shimmy and throws a leg kick. The leg kick missed by a considerable margin though, making him look a little bit silly for doing the shimmy.
Gracie uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Silver.
A bone on bone clash there as Gracie blocks the leg kick.
Silver doesn't manage to clinch there - Gracie circles away.
Silver tries to score with an inside leg kick but telegraphs it and Gracie is able to avoid easily.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
A combination from Silver does no damage.
Silver throws a nice looking combination but Gracie bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Silver pivots, looking for a leg kick but Gracie is out of range and Silver settles back down.
Nice uppercut lands for Gracie. That snapped Silver's head back.
Silver scores with a slapping inside leg kick.
Silver ducks low and lands a nice hook to the body of his opponent.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Anderson Silver dominated that round.
The cut man is working on Junior Gracie's cut.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Gracie jabbing away but nothing is landing.
Jab, jab by Gracie - just one landing.
Silver throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Silver throws a nice looking combination but Gracie bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
A left and a right from Silver both land. Nice combination.
Silver looks to land a right hand but Gracie moved out of range.
Silver connects with a nice looking jab.
Silver throws a leg kick but Gracie checks it.
Gracie throws a big shot that misses.
Silver steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Gracie.

Gracie is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Silver.

Silver is struggling to control the position.
Silver tries to land knees in the clinch but Gracie avoids the damage to the body.

Silver manages to pull guard.
Silver is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Gracie pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Silver is keeping the position for now.

Gracie postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Silver is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Gracie, into his guard.

Gracie had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Silver defends it easily.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Silver seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Gracie does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Silver perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.

Silver is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
Gracie moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.

Silver with poor footwork there. He got himself in a bit of a tangle, enabling Gracie to score with a decent uppercut.
Gracie scores with a one two! Silver had his feet all tangled up there and couldn't avoid the strikes.
Silver throws a nice looking combination but Gracie bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Gracie displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Silver throws out the jab.
Silver fakes the leg kick and cracks Gracie in the body.

Gracie has gone for a leg lock! Silver slips out almost immediately though and dives into Gracie's guard.
Silver is looking to stand up but Gracie won't let him.

Silver drops back looking for a leg! Gracie is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Gracie manages to kick Silver off! Silver jumps back into Gracie's guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Gracie is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
Gracie is looking to pass the guard... He's managed it - he's now in full mount!

Gracie moves into side control, trying to work for a kimura. That looks painful! Will he finish!!?? No, Silver has worked his arm free - good work by Silver!

Silver regains half guard.

Silver tries to roll over but Gracie keeps him under control.
Silver gets back to full guard.

Junior Gracie has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Silver pulls Gracie in close to prevent any damage.
Anderson Silver is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

Silver lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Gracie!
Gracie wants to control but Silver is having none of it.

Silver get's back to his feet.
Silver thows a body shot but no joy.
Gracie misses with an uppercut.
Gracie ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Silver moves away.

Gracie decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Silver is staying active underneath Gracie, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Silver tries to get to full guard but Gracie has control of the leg.

Silver is trying to control but can't.
Silver is pressing down on Gracie's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Silver is on top in guard.
Silver won't allow Gracie to sweep him here.
Silver sitting in guard, not really doing much.
Silver trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Gracie manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Silver is looking to improve his position but Gracie isn't that keen on the idea.

Anderson Silver comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Silver has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
