PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Dominik Habl (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jeff Bulldog (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Jeff Bulldog is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Dominik Habl!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Jeff Bulldog!
The judges for this bout are Gwen Towbar, Frank Dennis and Cecil Peabody.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Bulldog throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Bulldog fails to land the takedown.
Habl dodges the punch combination from Bulldog.

Bulldog darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
Bulldog controlling the action here.
Bulldog wants to lay and pray for a moment but Habl keeps working.
Bulldog should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.
Habl pushes Bulldog off looking to stand but Bulldog dives back in and keeps control.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Still in half guard, Bulldog seems content to control.
Habl makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Habl.

Bulldog pushes down on Habl's leg and manages to get into half guard.
Habl tries to get to full guard but Bulldog has control of the leg.
Habl is trying to maintain the position but Bulldog is very close to passing his half guard.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

Habl is trying to control but Bulldog passes into side control!
Bulldog is moving around in side control but his primary objective seems to be to maintain the position.
Habl knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Bulldog on the ground.

Bulldog wants to take a breather but Habl is having none of it.
Bulldog is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.

Despite being in the dominant position, Jeff Bulldog just isn't active enough and the referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Habl closes the distance and clinches.

Habl breaks from the clinch.

Habl scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.

Bulldog wants to improve his position but Habl is controlling well.
Well, if Habl is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.
Habl is looking to take a break and control but Bulldog is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Dominik Habl will probably get the nod.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!



Habl has managed to clinch.

Habl wants the takedown. Bulldog is fighting it off but Habl persists and manages to bring the fight to the ground, ending up in Bulldog's guard against the cage.

Habl will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Bulldog is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Habl is looking to work some ground and pound but Bulldog has wrist control.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

Habl shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away.
Bulldog is working to get back to half guard.
Habl lands with some vicious ground and pound - can Bulldog hang on?
Habl pausing momentarily but resumes with a couple of decent strikes that do a bit of damage.
Habl throwing strikes here but Bulldog is writhing around nicely and avoiding any serious damage.
Bulldog wants to hold on but Habl pushes him away.
Habl throws some wild stikes that Bulldog manages to avoid easily.

Habl can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Bulldog is looking to escape.

Bulldog sneaks a leg back under and regains half guard and is working straight away to try and get back to guard. He hasn't managed just yet though.
Bulldog is looking to improve his position.
Habl seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Bulldog does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

Habl is keen to just control but Bulldog is a slippery customer.
It looks like Habl is going to stand back up.
Bulldog works his way to full guard. Good work.
Habl has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

Bulldog has his hands on Habl's head, controlling the position.

Bulldog escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Habl gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Habl looking to sit in guard and control but Bulldog gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
Bulldog wants to control from the top but Habl keeps moving.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Bulldog is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Dominik Habl dominated that second round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!



Habl shoots in and bounces Bulldog off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.

Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Bulldog is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

Despite being in the dominant position, Jeff Bulldog just isn't active enough and the referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Habl tries to score with some ground and pound. Bulldog controls his posture well this time though and the shots don't do any damage.

Habl tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Habl has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Habl goes for an armbar! This could be all over! Wait, no, Bulldog rolls with the submission and now he's on top in Habl's guard! Nice work there by Bulldog!
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Bulldog trying to control the position from guard on top but Habl is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Jeff Bulldog has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

Bulldog drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Bulldog jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Bulldog stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Habl swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Bulldog is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Bulldog looks to land a combination but Habl avoids it well.

Habl moves into range and clinches up with Bulldog.

Habl breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Habl throws a head kick that misses.
Habl tries to clinch but Bulldog is having none of it.
Bulldog doesn't succeed with the takedown

and Habl holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.
The two fighters are working to gain dominance in the clinch.
Habl tries a knee to the head but he's missed.
Bulldog jumps guard but Habl stands there with Bulldog around his waist. Bulldog gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.

Habl breaks from the clinch.

Habl closes the distance and clinches.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Habl content to slow the pace in the clinch.

Habl pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Habl lands a head kick!
Bulldog shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Habl as he jumps to the side.
Dominik Habl has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jeff Bulldog.

Habl closes the distance and clinches.
Habl manages to get underhooks and slows down the pace for a moment.
Habl landing knees to the body.
Dominik Habl is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Bulldog misses with the head strike.

And that's the end of the fight!
Dominik Habl showed his dominance in that final round.
Well Habl has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
