PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between William Shakespire (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Hideaki Katsu (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Shakespire comes to the cage accompanied by Insane Clown Posse - In Yo Face. Hideaki Katsu will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, William Shakespire!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Hideaki Katsu!
The judges for this bout are Hirohito Nitta, Ren Mimura and Yukihiro Shimada.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Shakespire is defended easily by Katsu.
Shakespire throws a nice looking combination but Katsu bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Shakespire is trying hard to land a takedown here. Katsu sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Katsu.

Katsu is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Shakespire has escaped the position, nice work there.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Katsu wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Shakespire, who protects the arm well.

Katsu tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Katsu has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Katsu tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
Shakespire is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Katsu's leg. He's managed it. Nice work.
Shakespire wants to get back to full guard.
Shakespire is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Katsu's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Katsu's back!
Katsu rolls, trying to escape but Shakespire keeps control of the position.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Katsu tries to escape the position - he's now mounted. Is that better or worse? Hard to tell!

Shakespire has control of Katsu's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Katsu regains control of the situation pretty easily.
Shakespire is breathing heavily.
Katsu working to try and regain half guard.

Shakespire goes for an armbar but he's not got it… Katsu turns into him and now he's in Shakespire's guard.
Shakespire keeping full guard, as Katsu tries to pass.

Katsu drops back looking for a leg! Shakespire is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Shakespire manages to kick Katsu off! Katsu jumps back into Shakespire's guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Katsu thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Katsu pushes down on Shakespire's leg and manages to get into half guard.
Shakespire is looking for a sweep. Katsu is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Shakespire pushes Katsu off looking to stand but Katsu dives back in and keeps control.

Katsu looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Shakespire wants to get back to his feet.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Katsu has freed up his trapped foot and advances to mount.

Katsu jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but Shakespire manages to avoid the submission attempt.

Katsu tries for a kimura but Shakespire is defending well.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Hideaki Katsu dominated that round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Shakespire misses with a takedown

and Katsu counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
Katsu tries to free his leg and advance position but Shakespire is retaining full guard.

Katsu drops back for a leg here. A bit of a high risk move... He's looking for a kneebar by the looks of things. Now both of them are looking for submissions. Katsu seems to have locked his on tight now - Shakespire screams in pain and taps out furiously! It certainly was a high risk move but it's paid off for Katsu, as he picks up the win!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:40 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kneebar). Hideaki Katsu!
