PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between John Reaper (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Thomas Davenport (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Davenport has chosen Ready for the Fight as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 4 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, John Reaper!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Thomas Davenport!
The judges for this bout are Yukihiro Yamamoto, Taro Takaoka and Hirohito Nitta.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Reaper lands a two punch combo.
Davenport tries to close the distance and clinch but Reaper swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
A big left from Reaper misses.
Davenport throws a leg kick but Reaper sees it coming and checks it nicely.
Reaper lands a beauty of a right hand that gets the crowd cheering.
Reaper swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Ouch! a nice leg kick from Davenport, right into the meat.

Davenport scores a takedown into full mount!
Reaper is squirming around, avoiding Davenport's attempts to control the action.
Reaper is in all sorts of trouble here.
The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.
Reaper sneaks a leg back under and regains half guard and is working straight away to try and get back to guard. He hasn't managed just yet though.

Reaper wants to sweep but Davenport has passed to side control!
Davenport wants to lay and pray for a moment but Reaper keeps working.
Reaper tries to bench press Davenport off him but Davenport keeps the position.
Reaper is trying to control Davenport's posture but Davenport avoids it.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Reaper is looking for a sweep.
An elbow from Davenport crashes against the mat.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Reaper shoots in but doesn't get the takedown

and Davenport counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
Reaper is trying to get back to full guard.
Davenport seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Reaper does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

Reaper moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.
Davenport is pushing down on Reaper's leg trying to pass to half guard. Reaper is fighting to maintain full guard but Davenport has managed to sneak the leg through.
Davenport wants to lay and pray for a moment but Reaper keeps working.

Reaper tries to roll over but Davenport keeps him under control.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Reaper is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Davenport pulls his head out easily.

Davenport is stalling here. Reaper is in no mood to hang around though. He's locked up a kimura from the bottom! Davenport seems to be keeping calm but he's forced to roll out of the hold and Reaper has ended up in side control on the top. Nice work.
Reaper throwing strikes but Davenport manages to buck up and roll into a nice reversal - now he's on top in side control!

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Davenport with a nice looking leg kick. You could hear that one land in a back row.
Horrible takedown by Reaper or perhaps it was just good defense by Davenport which made him look bad.

Davenport has managed to clinch.
Davenport blocks an uppercut.
Davenport blocks a punch to the side of the head.
Davenport can't find room to land a body shot as Reaper controls the action.
Davenport pushes Reaper back against the ropes and lands a hook to the side of the head.
Reaper prevents a body shot from Davenport.

Reaper throws a punch but it's blocked by Davenport.
Reaper looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now.
Reaper has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Davenport avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.

Reaper changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Davenport fights it off and pushes away nicely.

Reaper is working for a takedown up against the ropes. He can't get it on this occasion though.

Davenport has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Reaper uses from the top position.

Reaper throws a strike but Davenport rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.
Davenport must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Davenport digs a right hand into Reaper's ribs. Those have got to be taking their toll on Reaper's gas tank.

Davenport lands a body punch - he's looking to wear down Reaper.

With the fighters clinched against the ropes, Davenport creates a bit of distance for himself and scores with a nice uppercut.
Reaper swings wildly with an uppercut but Davenport uses good head movement to avoid it.

Reaper drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Davenport manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Reaper has Davenport in his guard.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Reaper makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Reaper.
Reaper is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Davenport slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.

Reaper had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Davenport defends it easily.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Reaper is on top in guard.
John Reaper has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Reaper throws a strike but Davenport rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.
Davenport is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.

Reaper is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Davenport is aware though and is defending well.

It's got to the stage where if one of these guys blows hard enough, the other might fall over.
The referee asks Davenport politely if he wouldn't mind getting on with it and actually doing something. Davenport prefers to stall for the moment though.

I've got Davenport winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
