PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Eric Cartman (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Greg Groove (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Cartman kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genuis that is The Way Of The Fist. Rumors backstage are that the fighters have been paid to keep it standing but we know that would never happen in MMA!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Eric Cartman!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Greg Groove!
The judges for this bout are Summer Carpenter, Winston Howard and Steve Erwin.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Groove closes this distance looking for a takedown but Cartman circles away.
Groove is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Cartman stuffs the takedown.
Groove throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Cartman's waist but Cartman gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Groove off to one side.
Eric Cartman has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Greg Groove.
Groove doesn't manage to clinch there - Cartman circles away.
Groove will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.

Cartman shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
Groove wants to control the position but Cartman says "no thanks buddy" and passes to half guard.

Cartman stands, ready to strike. The ref makes him back up and allows Groove to get to his feet.

Cartman shoots in and bounces Groove off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Cartman works a leg free and moves into half guard.
Cartman trying to control from half guard but Groove is working away.
Groove manages to get to full guard.
Hammerfist, elbow! yells Cartman's corner. There ya go! There ya go!

That's one minute gone in the round.
Cartman postures up and lands a big shot to Groove's brow.
Cartman has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Cartman drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Cartman jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
Cartman pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Groove is keeping the position for now.
Cartman postures up.
Cartman stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Groove swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Groove is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Groove looks gassed!

Cartman stands up from Groove's guard - Cartman perhaps looking for a knockout.
Cartman shoots in for a takedown but Groove shows good takedown defense.
Cartman will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Cartman shoots for a double leg takedown but Groove sprawls well. He's pushed Cartman's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Cartman tries to score with a leg kick but it misses it's target.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Cartman tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Groove paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Cartman throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.

Groove closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Groove lands in his opponent's guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Groove forces his way into half guard.

Groove is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Cartman doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Groove.
Cartman could do with loosing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Cartman tries to roll over but Groove keeps him under control.
Cartman trying to control but Groove postures up.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Cartman looking for submissions off his back.
Cartman regains full guard. Nicely done.
Groove trying to control but Cartman is working from the bottom.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fight is doing enough on the ground.

Cartman takes the fight into the clinch.
Groove is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Cartman gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.
Groove is pressed up against the cage. Cartman has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Groove down to the mat. Groove avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.

Cartman bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.

Cartman is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Groove has escaped the position, nice work there.
You can see the frustration on Groove's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Cartman wants to lay and pray for a moment but Groove keeps working.
Groove is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.
Groove is controlling Cartman's position as best he can from this difficult position.
Groove makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Groove.

Cartman drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Groove manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Cartman has Groove in his guard.
Groove controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
Groove must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Cartman is looking for a triangle but Groove pushes his legs off easily.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Eric Cartman dominated that round.
That's time! Back to the action!



Groove closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Cartman works his way to full guard. Good work.
Cartman manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Groove manages to get himself to full guard.
Groove looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Cartman slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.

Cartman has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.

Cartman has closed the distance and engaged Groove in a clinch.
Groove prevents the takedown attempt.

Cartman is fighting off a takedown attempt but Groove is just too persistent for him and manages to trip Cartman to the mat. Cartman regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat.

Cartman working for a triangle but Groove defends it easily.
Groove tries to free his leg and advance position but Cartman is retaining full guard.
Groove is breathing heavily.
Cartman wants to sweep but no luck.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Cartman escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Groove gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Cartman looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.

Cartman had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. Groove is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. Cartman Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take Groove's back instead.
Groove wants to escape the position but for the time being he's just trying to control the pace.
Groove trying to control the position but Cartman manages to sink in the hooks.

Cartman is persistently looking for the submission but Groove is defending it well.
Groove rolls and manages to get back to half guard. Nicely done.

Cartman is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Groove defends it well.
Groove is staying active underneath Cartman, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Groove is looking to improve his position.
Cartman trying to control the action but Groove is working from the bottom.

Cartman decides he's had enough of the ground and stands up.

and Cartman counters into the clinch. Nicely done.

Cartman gets a nice trip takedown into half guard.

Cartman has hold of the far side arm. He's working for the Kimura, can Groove defend it? Cartman steps over the head and cranks it - Groove is tapping out! That was textbook stuff right there - nice submission victory for Cartman!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:10 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Eric Cartman!
