PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Ron Rudoft (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ivan Curcic (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Ron Rudoft!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Ivan Curcic!
The judges for this bout are Albert Achterberg, Wagner Zegers and Paulsen Ambrosius.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Rudoft darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Curcic is pressing down on Rudoft's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.
Rudoft wants to pass the guard but Curcic is keeping the position.
Curcic is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Rudoft is looking to stand up but Curcic won't let him.

Curcic is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Rudoft trying to control but Curcic is working from the bottom.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Curcic working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Rudoft doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Rudoft manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
Curcic wants a takedown.
Curcic is looking to break free of the clinch but Rudoft has double underhooks.
Rudoft scores with an uppercut up the middle.
Curcic wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.
An uppercut to the body lands inside from Rudoft.

Rudoft breaks from the clinch.

Rudoft moves into the clinch successfully.

Rudoft's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Rudoft rushes Curcic and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.

Rudoft has hold of one of Curcic's legs. Curcic is fighting the takedown attempt but Rudoft gets the trip and lands the takedown into guard.
Curcic looks gassed!
Rudoft is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
Rudoft has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
Rudoft seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Curcic for as long as he can get away with.
Rudoft stands up over Curcic, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Rudoft drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Rudoft jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Rudoft slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Rudoft stands up over Curcic, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.
Curcic can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Rudoft controls the pace.
Rudoft wants to pass the guard but Curcic is keeping the position.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Rudoft decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Curcic, up you get!

The fight moves into the clinch position.

Rudoft pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.

Rudoft is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Curcic's half guard.
Curcic is in trouble now - Rudoft has advanced to mount!
BOOM! Rudoft connects with a massive shot to the dome!
Rudoft fakes a shot to the body and cracks his opponent in the head. Nice ground and pound there!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Ron Rudoft dominated that round.
That's time! Rudoft's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.



Rudoft bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Curcic being controlled for a moment.

Rudoft decides to take the fight back to the feet.
Curcic doesn't succeed with the takedown

and Rudoft counters with a nice double leg into side control. Curcic won't be happy with that.

Rudoft stands up and we're back to a striking position.
Curcic is breathing heavily.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Rudoft drives through and clinches with Curcic against the cage.

Rudoft successfully pulls guard.
Rudoft manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!
Rudoft with shots to the head and body - Curcic looks very uncomfortable down there.

The referee warns Curcic that he has to improve his position here as he takes two more clean shots to the head.

Rudoft sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment.
Rudoft looking to ground and pound his opponent to a finish here.
Rudoft has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Curcic's face.
Rudoft controlling the position easily from mount.

Rudoft working to secure an arm triangle but it's not happening for him just yet.

Rudoft tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
Curcic tries to reverse the position but Rudoft maintains control.
Curcic is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.
Rudoft with a couple of short strikes.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Rudoft get's back to his feet.

Rudoft moves into range and clinches up with Curcic.

Rudoft turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Rudoft manages to end up in side control.
Curcic seems a little lost for a moment, as Rudoft dominates the positioning.
Curcic is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Rudoft's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Ron Rudoft dominated that second round.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. This is the final round!


Curcic misses with a takedown attempt

and Rudoft decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Curcic's guard.
Rudoft might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

The referee stands the fighters back up. Ron Rudoft just wasn't active enough from the dominant position.
Rudoft scores with a nice one two combo and darts back out of range to avoid anything coming in the opposite direction.

Curcic tries to keep at a distance but Rudoft has taken the fight into the clinch.

Rudoft gets a nice trip takedown into half guard.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Rudoft stands up out of the half guard.
Curcic avoids the head kick by Rudoft.
Rudoft throws a sloppy head kick and Curcic moves out of range easily.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Rudoft scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.

Rudoft moves into full mount! Curcic won't be happy about that!
Rudoft lands a big shot there that rocks Curcic but he's holding on and managing to survive for now.
Rudoft lands a shot to the body, followed up by a shot to the exposed head of his trapped opponent.
Curcic is desperately trying to improve his position but Rudoft has a good base and remains in mount.
Rudoft has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Rudoft takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

Rudoft is working on an americana here. Ooh, that looks pretty nasty! Nope, Curcic has managed to escape the submission attempt.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Well Rudoft has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
