PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Jan Kos (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Junior De Sousa (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Jan Kos!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Junior De Sousa!
The judges for this bout are James Glass, James Atkins and Daniel Bishop.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

De Sousa scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.
Kos is trying to stand up here but De Sousa is controlling him well.
De Sousa is looking to stand up but he'll have to free his leg first. Instead, Kos manages to get to full guard.
Kos will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
De Sousa postures up.
De Sousa being controlled here momentarily.
De Sousa must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

De Sousa pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Kos is keeping the position for now.
De Sousa wants to control from the top but Kos keeps moving.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

Kos looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into mount! Oh, that's bad for De Sousa!

De Sousa tries to hold on but Kos postures up.
De Sousa bucks up and manages to get a nice reversal! He's in guard on the top - nicely done!
De Sousa stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Kos swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Kos is trying to control the position from the bottom.
De Sousa throwing strikes but missing.
Kos is looking to stand up but De Sousa isn't so interested in that idea.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
De Sousa tries to free his leg and advance position but Kos is retaining full guard.
Kos looking to hit a scissor sweep but De Sousa is one step ahead there.
De Sousa trying to control but Kos is working from the bottom.
Kos seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Kos shoots in but doesn't get the takedown

and De Sousa counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
Kos is trying to get back to full guard.
De Sousa missing with some ground and pound from the half guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
De Sousa not landing any meaningful shots this time.
Kos is staying active underneath De Sousa, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Kos trying to hold on to De Sousa's head to control him but De Sousa postures up.
Kos is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because De Sousa is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.
Kos is looking to improve his position.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
De Sousa with a poor takedown
and Kos counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Kos chopped to the floor by a nice leg kick but he springs right back up before De Sousa can pounce on him.
De Sousa fails with the takedown

and Kos counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in De Sousa's guard now.
De Sousa looks gassed!

De Sousa keeping full guard, as Kos tries to pass.

Kos gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.

and De Sousa counters with a shoot takedown. Kos fights it but they end up in guard.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
De Sousa stays in close to Kos's body and controls the position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
De Sousa stopping the sweep attempt from Kos.
Kos not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Junior De Sousa dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.



De Sousa darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
De Sousa stops Kos from getting back to his feet.
De Sousa is just content to waste time from the top position. Kos takes advantage of the situation and regains full guard.

De Sousa decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.
A combination from Kos does no damage.
Kos fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
De Sousa tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Kos tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but De Sousa paws at him with a jab and circles away.

That's one minute gone in the round.
De Sousa misses with a head kick.

Excellent takedown into side control there by De Sousa.
De Sousa is breathing heavily.
Kos struggling a bit here.
Kos is looking to reverse the position.
De Sousa trying to control the position but Kos is working away.
Kos manages to work his way to half guard, despite De Sousa's best efforts.
Kos is trying to maintain the position but De Sousa is very close to passing his half guard.
Kos is trying to stand up here but De Sousa is controlling him well.

Kos is refusing to be controlled, as De Sousa sits in half guard.
Junior De Sousa has got the better of the ground game so far.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Kos misses with a takedown attempt - De Sousa sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Kos fails with an attempt to clinch.
Left hook, right uppercut from Kos.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Kos.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Jan Kos. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Kos scores with a slapping inside leg kick.
De Sousa shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Kos pinned against the cage. Kos gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.

Kos darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

De Sousa has one foot on Kos's thigh - he pushes off and manages to get back to his feet.

Kos feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Kos lands a couple of decent looking shots.

De Sousa avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.

De Sousa looking to work for a kimura from the bottom.
Kos lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.
Kos takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
Kos trying to control from half guard but De Sousa is working away.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Jan Kos will probably get the nod.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. Let's hear some noise people - this is the final round!


Kos moves into range and throws a lovely three punch combination.
Kos tries to clinch but De Sousa moves out of range.
Kos gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily

and De Sousa decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Kos's guard.
Kos is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

De Sousa takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
De Sousa stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Kos swivels though and keeps the full guard.

De Sousa's corner is telling him to maintain position.
De Sousa wants to control from the top but Kos keeps moving.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.

Kos closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. De Sousa did well to prevent Kos getting side control.
Kos seems to have lost interest with the ground game and is thinking about standing back up.
De Sousa gets back to full guard.
Kos looking to pass the guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
De Sousa keeping moving, preventing Kos from controlling successfully.

De Sousa controls Kos momentarily but Kos frees himself.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Kos ducks down and throws a hook to the body.

and De Sousa counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
Kos wants to stand but De Sousa is controlling the position.
De Sousa slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
Kos tries to strike from the bottom.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Kos controls De Sousa momentarily but De Sousa frees himself.
De Sousa wants to control from the top but Kos keeps moving.
De Sousa working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
De Sousa postures up.
Kos wants to get back to his feet but De Sousa is in a dominant position and won't allow it.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

De Sousa scores a takedown into full mount!

De Sousa goes for an armbar but he's fallen flat on his backside there and now Kos is on top in guard.
Kos wants to control from the top but De Sousa keeps moving.

And that's the end of the fight!
Junior De Sousa comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think De Sousa has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
