Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of
1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Thiago Cyde!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of
4 - 10 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Thiago Alves!
The judges for this bout are Eliza Hachem, Steve Erwin and Skip Squint.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Alves decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Alves wants to control but Cyde is keeping him busy.
Cyde is looking to improve his position.
Alves tries to stand but his hand is stuck under Cyde.
Cyde is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Alves wants to stand up but Cyde has a hold of him and won't allow it.
Cyde is looking for a sweep. Alves is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Alves tries to stand but his arm is trapped.
Alves decides to stand and escape the position.
Alves is on the wrong end of a nice combination from Cyde.
Alves scoring well with a low kick there.
Cyde moves away from the strike by Alves.
That's one minute gone in the round.
Cyde moves out of range of the strikes.
Cyde shoots and misses
and Alves counters with a nice double leg into side control. Cyde won't be happy with that.
Alves has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.
Thiago Alves seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Alves throws out a loose jab but Cyde uses good head movement to avoid it.
Alves fails to land with a series of punches.
Cyde scores with a jab to the jaw of his opponent.
Alves jabbing away but nothing is landing.
Cyde lands with an overhand left.
Cyde misses with a two punch combination.
Cyde uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Alves.
Cyde fakes low and throws an overhand right that catches Alves on the side of the head.
Alves tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Cyde was well out of range. Poor timing from Alves.
Alves looks gassed!
Cyde will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Cyde misses with the combination.
Cyde bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Alves is trying to buck Cyde off.
That's two minutes gone in the round.
Cyde works to advance to full mount. Alves defends for a few seconds but eventually he succumbs.
Alves wants to get back to his feet but in bucking up he's left an arm hanging out! Cyde has locked onto it and has pulled off a slick armbar! Alves taps furiously! This one is all over!
