Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Charles Bennett (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Louis Velasquez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Velasquez is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: Brother Louie. Louis Velasquez has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Charles Bennett!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Louis Velasquez!
The judges for this bout are Mauricio Rocha, Paulo Santos and Emerson Jorge.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Bennett shoots in and bounces Velasquez off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Bennett working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Velasquez controls Bennett momentarily but Bennett frees himself.
Bennett with a nice head shot there.
Bennett is looking to work some ground and pound but Velasquez has wrist control.
Velasquez preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
Bennett throws a strike but Velasquez rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.
Velasquez trying to control but Bennett is working from the bottom.

Bennett trying to keep a closed guard but Velasquez is proving a slippery customer.
Bennett has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Bennett seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.
Velasquez must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Velasquez controlling from the top position.
Velasquez is looking to stand up but Bennett won't let him.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Bennett strikes from his own guard.
Velasquez wants to control from the top but Bennett keeps moving.
Bennett on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Bennett tries to get out of the position.
Bennett wants to sweep here but Velasquez controlling him for the moment.
Bennett is wriggling around but Velasquez manages to pass to half guard.
Bennett wants to get back to full guard but Velasquez has mounted him!

Velasquez takes Bennett's back.
Bennett tries to escape the position.
Bennett is working hard here to advance position.
Bennett just trying to survive but Velasquez is wriggling into a better position, looking to finish.
Bennett tries to escape but Velasquez has the hooks in and won't let him break free.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Bennett trying to control but not successfully.
I really don't envy Bennett right now.
A bit of a pause in the action here. Velasquez controlling the positon.
Velasquez tries to keep control of the position but Bennett is staying busy.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Bennett manages to reverse the position and now he's in Velasquez's guard. Nice work there by Bennett.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.



Bennett gets the takedown into side control.
Bennett tries to score with some ground and pound. Velasquez controls his posture well this time though and the shots don't do any damage.
Sloppy strikes there by Bennett.
Bennett misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.
Bennett in side control, trying to ground and pound but not landing this time.
Velasquez regains half guard, as Bennett was trying to land strikes.
Bennett looks to land a strike but Velasquez avoids it nicely and regains full guard.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Bennett stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Velasquez swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Bennett lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard.

Bennett throws a strike but Velasquez rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.
Bennett looking to hit a scissor sweep but Velasquez is one step ahead there.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Bennett striking off his back but it's not causing Velasquez any problems.
Velasquez wants to control from the top but Bennett keeps moving.
Velasquez sitting in guard, not really doing much.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Bennett shoots in but no luck this time.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Velasquez connects with a jab.
Velasquez scores with a jab to the body.
Velasquez lands with a straight right. Bennett didn't see that one coming.
Velasquez fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Bennett looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath.
Velasquez lands a jab. Then a cross. Then finally a nice hook to the body. Good work there by Velasquez.
Velasquez getting the better of the striking in that exchange.
Bennett has his head snapped back a nice jab. A little nod from Bennett there as he acknowledges the shot.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Bennett tries to score a power double leg takedown but Velasquez sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Bennett somewhat.
Bennett takes a punch right to his stomach. That took the wind out of him momentarily.

Velasquez fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Bennett looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath.
Bennett slips a jab and a cross from Velasquez.
Velasquez connects with a lovely jab that went straight through the gap between Bennett's hands.
Bennett on the wrong end of a nice jab.
Velasquez punishes Bennett's body with a nice straight punch.
Louis Velasquez is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Velasquez throws a shot to the body.
Bennett takes one to the chin there.
Bennett takes a body punch but keeps moving.
Velasquez lands a jab-cross combination.
Velasquez lands a jab-cross combination.


Bennett is rocked!

Velasquez lands a big right hand that sends Bennett crashing to the mat! Velasquez stays standing though and waves Bennett back to his feet!
Oh Bennett is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Velasquez circles and sees the opportunity to plant his feet and throw a really nice straight left hand that drops Bennett to the canvas! Bennett doesn't know where he is but he's trying to survive - Velasquez keeps piling on the pressure and forces the referee to step in! This one is aaaaaall over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:53 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Louis Velasquez!
