PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between James Doan (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Charlie DeWitt (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Well, the cameraman is lingering on a pretty young lady for a bit too long there. Keep your eyes on the fighters buddy or you'll miss the fighter intros!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, for the welterweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, James Doan!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Charlie DeWitt!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Bishop, Chris Edwards and James Glass.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Nice defenses there by DeWitt.

Doan closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
DeWitt is looking to improve his position.
DeWitt has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Doan is working away from the top position though.
Doan trying to control from half guard but DeWitt is working away.
DeWitt makes his way to full guard. A much better position for DeWitt.
DeWitt keeping moving, preventing Doan from controlling successfully.
Doan slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
DeWitt looking to hit a scissor sweep but Doan is one step ahead there.

Doan has gone for a leg lock! DeWitt slips out almost immediately though and dives into Doan's guard.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
DeWitt won't allow Doan to get back to his feet.
DeWitt is on the wrong end of a couple of strikes there.
DeWitt looking to pass the guard.
DeWitt preventing the sweep.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Nice takedown defense from DeWitt. No joy for Doan on that attempt.

Doan gets in close and instigates a clinch.
DeWitt softening up his opponent with strikes, against the cage.
DeWitt lands an uppercut.

DeWitt lands with a short shot to the head.
Doan looking to stall.
DeWitt is looking to break free of the clinch but Doan has double underhooks.
DeWitt prevents Doan from breaking the clinch.
DeWitt will no doubt start fighting again in a minute but for now he's just having a little rest, leaning Doan up against the cage.

DeWitt is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Doan slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

DeWitt wants to sweep here but Doan controlling him for the moment.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Doan has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
Doan is stalling in the full guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Doan postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
DeWitt tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Doan slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

James Doan dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Doan misses with a two punch combination.
Doan shoots in looking for a takedown. DeWitt tries to sprawl out of it but Doan keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. DeWitt manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Doan tries for a takedown but DeWitt sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.

Doan gets in close and instigates a clinch.
DeWitt wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee.
Doan misses the knee to the body. Nice hip positioning from DeWitt.
Doan tries to pull guard but DeWitt holds him up against the cage and eventually Doan drops back down to his feet.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for James Doan. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Doan pulls guard.
Doan not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
DeWitt trying to control the position from guard on top but Doan is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
DeWitt lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Doan is on top in guard.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

DeWitt looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Doan trying to control the position from guard on top but DeWitt is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Doan throws a strike but DeWitt rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.
Doan looking to hit a scissor sweep but DeWitt is one step ahead there.

DeWitt avoids a guillotine attempt easily.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
DeWitt trying to control but Doan is working from the bottom.

Doan seems keen to control DeWitt's posture.
Doan wants to sweep but no luck.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
DeWitt misses with a combination

and Doan holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.
Doan jumps guard but DeWitt stands there with Doan around his waist. Doan gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.

Doan has dropped down and is working for a takedown. DeWitt is trying to keep an underhook but Doan manages to get the takedown into half guard.
Doan keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action.
DeWitt is looking to control Doan's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can DeWitt avoid being mounted?
Doan throwing shots but DeWitt is blocking nicely.
DeWitt is trying to control but can't.
Doan wants to lay and pray for a moment but DeWitt keeps working.
DeWitt is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Doan's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Doan's back!

DeWitt tries to get the hooks in deep but Doan pushed the leg off.

Doan trying to control the hands but DeWitt won't let him.
DeWitt has the hooks in. Doan is trying to push off one leg but he has to do so cautiously to avoid being submitted.
Doan controlling the position well but he knows he's in a bad position.
Doan rolls, trying to escape but DeWitt keeps control of the position.
Doan is trying to stand back up.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
DeWitt gets his hands free as Doan looks to control.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. This is the final round!



Doan decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Doan wants to stand up but DeWitt is controlling the position.
Doan wants to free his trapped foot but DeWitt is holding on for dear life with his legs.
DeWitt flails away from the bottom but he's not doing any damage.
Doan tries to stand and escape but DeWitt is controlling the position.
Doan trying to control from half guard but DeWitt is working away.
Doan missing with the ground and pound from half guard.
Doan slows the pace down in half guard.
Doan working the head and body with strikes.

That's one minute gone in the round.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Doan throws a body punch but DeWitt moves out of range.
Doan misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from DeWitt.

DeWitt tries to keep at a distance but Doan has taken the fight into the clinch.
DeWitt stalling in the clinch.
An uppercut to the body lands inside from Doan.
Doan is looking for a takedown up against the cage. DeWitt gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.
DeWitt is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage.
Doan tries to break the clinch but DeWitt is controlling the position.
Doan trying to stall but DeWitt improves his position.
DeWitt misses with a hook from the clinch.

Doan breaks from the clinch.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Doan gets a clinch.
Doan tries to pull guard but DeWitt holds him up against the cage and eventually Doan drops back down to his feet.

Doan manages to break the clinch.

DeWitt drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
DeWitt slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.

Doan wants to sweep here but DeWitt controlling him for the moment.
DeWitt stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Doan swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Doan keeping moving, preventing DeWitt from controlling successfully.
Doan is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Doan punching from the bottom - just letting DeWitt know he's still in a fight.

Doan wants to hit a switch here but DeWitt passes into full mount! Oh no, disaster for Doan there!
Doan tries to hold on but DeWitt pushes him away.
DeWitt wants to control the pace but Doan is squirming around nicely.
Doan tries to hold on but DeWitt postures up.
Doan manages to regain half guard. Good work.

Doan avoiding damage under a succession of punches from DeWitt.
DeWitt prevents Doan from improving his position.
Doan trying to hold on to DeWitt's head to control him but DeWitt postures up.
Doan is looking for a sweep. DeWitt is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
DeWitt scoring with strikes to the body and head.
Doan keeping control of the position.
Doan is trying to stand back up but DeWitt is controlling him

James Doan showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Doan, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
