Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Ethan Jones (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mathew Briar (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

With a record of 7 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Ethan Jones!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Mathew Briar!
The judges for this bout are Dillan Fox, Gregory Folan and Steve Smith.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Briar tries to close the distance and clinch up but Jones swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Jones moves out of range as Briar strikes.
Briar is looking to clinch but Jones is avoiding it.
Briar moves in looking to clinch but Jones pushes him off.
Briar tries to close the distance and clinch but Jones swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Jones circles away from the clinch attempt.
The fighters circle momentarily. Briar darts into range and connects with a nice straight punch.
Briar doesn't manage to clinch there - Jones circles away.

Briar closes the distance and pushes Jones back into the cage.
Briar lands with a short punch from the clinch.
Briar scores with a nice hook to the head.
Briar with an attempt at a knee that misses.
Jones is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Briar pulls him back up using the underhooks.

Jones blocking some punches.
Briar lands with a short shot to the head.
Briar throws a head punch that misses.

Briar breaks from the clinch.
Briar leaves Jones with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Nice shot lands for Briar.
Briar cracks a nice hook into Jones's ribs.
Briar is looking to take this fight into the clinch.

Briar has managed to clinch.

Briar gets a trip takedown into half guard.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Briar decides to return to a standing position.
Horrible takedown by Jones or perhaps it was just good defense by Briar which made him look bad.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Briar wants to stand up but Jones is controlling him.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Briar rushes Jones and presses him up against the cage.
Briar tries to stall but Jones uses the opportunity to gain a better position.

Jones wants the takedown. Briar is fighting it off but Jones persists and manages to bring the fight to the ground, ending up in Briar's guard against the cage.
Ethan Jones overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Jones is looking to work some ground and pound but Briar has wrist control.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Jones tries to free his leg and advance position but Briar is retaining full guard.
Jones with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal.

Jones keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Briar's head.

and Jones counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Jones looking to sit in guard and control but Briar gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
Jones has a closed guard, preventing Briar from standing up.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Jones is looking to stand up but Briar isn't so interested in that idea.

Jones looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
Jones scores with a couple of good hammerfists.
Jones perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.

Briar is trying to stand back up but Jones is controlling him

and Jones decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Briar's guard.

Briar is absolutely dripping with sweat - he looks exhausted.
Jones is landing with some decent strikes but Briar is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue.
