PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Chris Meredith (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Thomas Bowness (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Meredith comes into the arena with Four Kicks blaring out of the sound system. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Chris Meredith!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Thomas Bowness!
The judges for this bout are Dillan Fox, Ian Loll and Yves DeLean.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Bowness shoots in looking for a takedown. Meredith tries to sprawl out of it but Bowness keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Meredith manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

Meredith closes the distance and clinches.
Meredith works on Bowness's body with a couple of short punches.
Bowness letting Meredith take a breather here.
Bowness fails to pull the fight into his guard.

Meredith's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Meredith tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.

Bowness is not content to let Meredith control the position.

Meredith seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Bowness does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Meredith has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Bowness wants to improve his position but Meredith is controlling well.

Kneeeeees! The crowd are calling for knees to the body. Meredith obliges.
Meredith gets an overhook and lands an elbow to the side of the head.
Bowness goes for a body shot but it's blocked.
Bowness takes an elbow to the temple.
Bowness tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Meredith smiles and moves away.
Meredith fails with an attempt to clinch.
Bowness tries to score a power double leg takedown but Meredith sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Bowness somewhat.

Meredith darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
Meredith wants to free his trapped foot but Bowness is holding on for dear life with his legs.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Meredith drops an elbow to the side of Bowness's head.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.

Meredith is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

Meredith gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.

Bowness won't allow Meredith to sweep him here.

Bowness in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
Bowness must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Meredith seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.
Bowness trying to control but Meredith is working from the bottom.

Bowness is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Meredith is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Meredith has escaped and now he's on top!
Bowness keeping moving, preventing Meredith from controlling successfully.

Bowness is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Meredith is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound.

Meredith lands a couple of elbows.
Meredith trying to control but Bowness is working from the bottom.
Meredith stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Bowness swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Bowness escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Meredith gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Meredith slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.
Meredith is maintaining the dominant position - no doubt Bowness will start to get frustrated soon if he's not already.

Meredith has worked his way into a potential kimura here. Bowness is trying to get out of the position but his squirming has just got him deeper into trouble. Meredith yanks on the arm and Bowness is forced to tap due to a very painful looking submission! Nice work by Meredith.
